Do you do every door?
Did you convert 'em all at once, or just at turnover? --70.92.xx.xx |

Only front entrance door. At turn over or earlier if requested by tenant. --98.164.xxx.xxx |

Best practice is to key all external doors the same.
I generally change the locks at turnover, so you can slowly change them to budget better. --72.172.xxx.xxx |

I have been converting every door lock at turnover. I have also been converting every padlock, every garage door lock, every everything. My ultimate goal is to carry one key. That’s it. There’s definitely a cost involved, but if you do it gradually, you don’t really feel it. --50.107.xxx.xxx |

I do all locks, all doors keyed the same-- doorknobs, deadbolts. I don't want my tenants to have to keep track of more than one key.
I convert my locks at turnover. That way, I spread the cost of conversion over a multi-year period. However, I'm in sfh's. If someone has a multi of significant size, it might be preferable to do it building-by-building, rather than piecemealing each unit at turnover. --96.46.xxx.xx |

I've been converting upon acquisition. I only have MFH's and I love this setup. I carry one key for all properties. That has eliminated the stress of a key ring. This is one of the best tidbits I've gotten from this site. --209.122.xx.xxx |

I convert at turn over or whenever I purchase a new house. I can't remember ever buying a house that had a tenant in place, so that would be a change while the house is vacant.
Always, all locks on a house and its garage use the same key.
Not only is it easy to change the lock cylinder, it is very convenient to have all my rentals open with one master key.
If I sell a house, I go over at closing and remove my landlord locks and replace them with whatever is the cheapest. --98.146.xxx.xxx |

At turn over or acquisition to spread out the expense. I only do one (most commonly used) door per house because when they move out I don't want to change 3 or 4 locks per house (with matching locks , no less). I just keep old locks on the rest of the house. No one has complained yet. I do not give a key for the deadbolts (they have a knob inside) and tell them those are to protect their person, get renter's insurance to protect their personal property. --174.231.x.xxx |

We installed them gradually as tenants moved out. Lessened the financial hit. I LOVE the simplicity of one key. --204.210.xxx.xxx |

I see no reason to covert all at once. The same amount of effort is spent changing out a lock set today vs. tomorrow, and once you've put in an iCore deadbolt lock, that should be the last time you ever have to put it in.
A modest gain in efficiency might be had from doing them all at once and therefore only needing 1 key on your key ring, but how often do you really use a key to get inside when the unit it occupied? I or my contractor just meet the tenant there.
So you guessed it, I'm converting as units come open. --107.216.xxx.xxx |

Spreading it our allows the deduction during turnover rather than a large expense - easier to track place by place, I use deadbolts only and passage knobs so the kids can't lock out the others. --76.188.xxx.xx |

ned,
YOu want Ernie's iCOre locks. Ez pz to swap out. The Kwikset can be tricky.
We use deadbolts with a non-locking knob from Lowes on all exterior doors. Stops accidental lockouts. And Momma picks the house - Momma wants the added security of a deadbolt. We PROMOTE this as an amenity.
This simple lock can be a make or break to a prospect.
We change ALL locks at turnover. Takes seconds per lock.
Do NOT leave ANY old locks on a home. When a break in, arson, attack, rape, or murder happens (we've had em all!) the police will ask for your key log showing you changed the locks for the new res.
There is a legal concept called ASSUMED SAFETY - when you present/show the home with locks on the doors it is reasonable for a person to assume a level of safety. You don't know what crazy ex- druggie boyfriend still has a key.
We do not provide the same key for every door. Tried that and it drove me crazy. People usually only use one door. I let them figure out who carries which key. No one has ever complained they got a key for the front door and key for the back door.
We rotate the used cylinders to other houses as needed.
My first order was 10 so I had them ready to install on the next turnovers. Tip: you need more than you think - front, back, garage - that's 3 for one home.
DEFINITELY WORTH IT!! One of the best changes I made at the time. The extra cost pays off in my time savings and convenience, new residents are super impressed when we change out the cylinders right before their eyes, and store locks break. You WILL spend the same amount over the years as your replace broken store locks, plus avoid your residents being locked out because the store lock broke...now what?!
And...trust the multi-millionaires here who use them and suggest them!

PS order a padlock or two. They use the same cylinder and are great for gates, utility trailers, etc. We use them on the overhead door track to secure garage doors.
