Hope your properties are not near any of this stuff. There have been twenty five percent more quakes over the past two months. I have been counting them on the USGS site. And they are BIG ones of 4 to 5 on the current scale. Most are in Indonesia or S. America. Now we have volcanoes on Hawaii and in Italy. So what's going on? A couple of things. There was just a total eclipse and the path went from Indonesia over to Columbia. Lots of extra gravitational pull when the moon and sun are close together. Happens every month at new moon but rarely with the timing to make an eclipse. Usually the miss is five to ten degrees. So that may account for some of this. The other is Solar Minimum and all the rain that came out of the atmosphere when it collapsed due to solar cooling. I don't know, maybe all that extra moisture lubricated some of the plates and is making them move releasing energy in the form of quakes and then those plate movements allow magma to flow out of old volcanoes. So this post isn't directly about landlording but our properties are sitting on land and it looks like its going to be moving around a little bit for awhile.

I love your posts Ally. I'm into the theory part because it keeps my mind thinking like tenants. So thank you. Yea the gravity is pulling the soil up toward the moon and sealing all the cracks around the world-- when it's block-- the gravity the earth settles and cracks open up. Fracking pressure then forces ground to shift causing earthquake. No real worry until they reach 7.8richter scale.

Now on to UFO's. My explanation for them is: the future trying to return. Their looking for that special opening to come back -- there probing. Great events in history-- building pyramids, great wall, along with famous persons-- maybe even Jesus was from our future and made it through??

I gotta go right now. The 2 guys in the white hospital garb are coming in-- they have a funny looking jacket to put on me-- buckles in the BACK.

Pat, several years ago there was a 6 unit for sale near to where I'm located. The owners were selling because they thought the world was going to end. I think it was predicted by some goof for May of 2011-2012, I can't remember now. Anyway, the new (current) owners are looking to sell this building again due to health issues.

I am in talks with them regarding this and another duplex they own. I'll take the rent until whatever end comes.

Sometimes beliefs can do strange things.

If I was in the position for that 6 unit years ago, I would've played on their fears to further push them selling the property to me. Just saying. --50.32.xxx.x

I laugh at the people who think it’s just hogwash. How do they think the whole world works? Magic? Its just always been? Granted , most persons don’t have to think about this stuff, but when you are the guy who has to set up the satellite ‘stuff’ for people like presidents and military commanders, well, then there are long training classes in all of this. It definitely affects communications.

They are getting better storage facilities for their collection of cars. That volcanic ash gets in everywhere, and it’s not great for their roadsters. --208.54.xx.xxx

Sorry, but this is crazy talk. Sheesh.

You said that there is "Lots of extra gravitational pull when the moon and sun are close together." That's simply not accurate -- AT ALL. It's non-science garbage.

During a solar eclipse, the moon and sun are not significantly "closer together" than during other times. In relative distance in space, it's almost negligible. The moon is about 240k miles from the earth. The Sun is about 93 MILLION miles away. When the moon is between the earth and the Sun -- versus when the moon is on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun -- there is still only 480k miles difference. This does not have any significant affect on the gravitational pull. Does a tiny difference exist? Yes. Is it "LOTS of extra pull?" Absolutely not. Is it enough to be significant to events like earthquakes and other such things on Earth? No. It isn't. And this is backed HEAVILY by scientific fact.

Some additional references:

sciencing.com/gravitational-force-earth-during-solar-eclipse-19381.html

Says: "The only difference in gravitational force during a solar eclipse is that the moon and sun are both pulling on the Earth from the same side -- but that really makes no difference in any measurable way."

sciencenotes.org/can-a-solar-eclipse-trigger-an-earthquake/

Says: "A lunar eclipse occurs during a full moon while a solar eclipse occurs during the new moon, but there is no statistical increase in seismic activity compared with any other new or full moon."

It just isn't true, sorry. --67.209.xxx.xx

Busy [WI]: Solar flares definitely can affect communications and satellites. This is known and science fact and I don't see anyone calling it "hogwash" with any scientific background.

However, there are also people that think solar flares cause volcanoes and earthquakes -- and THAT is "hogwash" that is again known and backed by science and years of research.

AllyM is one of those people too -- and, last time show brought it up saying that the number of earthquakes jumped during Solar Flares, I linked her right back to the USGS site that even SHE states is what she uses to check these things -- and pointed out that there was absolutely no correlation between solar flares and either frequency or intensity of earthquakes.

She doesn't care about science or research. She likes to say that she "counts herself" on the USGS site and yet when you point to ACTUAL data on the USGS site showing that she's wrong, she just ignores it.

You talk about how the world doesn't work on "magic", but that is EXACTLY what Ally seems to think.

I NEVER said that earthquakes increase during solar flares. That's ridiculous. Earthquakes increase when the moon is closest to the earth and in conjunction with the sun like it was this week during the eclipse. New moon puts the earth and sun near each other in the sky, not physically near, but gravitationally near. John, what makes the tides get high and low? THE MOON. It's the first thing we learn here where the ocean is just forty miles away and the rivers come up too when the tide is in. The moon has tidal effects on the crust of the earth. There was just an article on the net from a group of seismologists, earthquake scientists, in CA who have set out many sensors along fault lines and they report that during moon perigee, when it is closest to the earth, the SENSORS ARE SHOWING EFFECTS ON THE EARTH'S CRUST OF THE WHEN THE MOON PASSES OVER IT. None so blind as those who will not see. There is a famous climatologist named Ibn Browning who could predict earthquakes by the position of the moon and sun. Then he predicted one for the state of Missouri that didn't happen and he stopped predicting as the media would not let him alone. But he is an educated scientist and he believes this and I believe him. --173.61.xxx.xx

When I have time, I'll have to go hunting for our old Solar Flares discussion. Since the forums changed, I can't find it right now unfortunately. Maybe it is gone forever.

As for the rest, again, I listed sites above that explain that solar nor lunar eclipses cause any significant increase in earthquakes or volcano activity. Yes, the moon causes the tides. But the moon lining up with the sun for an enclipse does NOT cause a significant difference in gravitational pull. You keep saying that it does, but it simply doesn't.

Note that there HAS been a recent study that the moon's tidal effect actually DOES seem to have a correlation along some fault lines. That is what the study you mentioned showed. Note that it had NOTHING to do with eclipses. It was based solely on the moon causes those changes -- the sun being "in line" did not increase anything in that study either.

On a side note, you call Iben Browning "a famous climatologist", but that reality is that he is only a "self-proclaimed" "climatologist." He's actually a business consultant and author by trade. He had no formal training related to being a climatologist. (His Doctorate was in zoology.)

His predictions were wrong pretty much all the time. He predicted earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and economic collapses -- none of which came true. After his big one where he was wrong that you mentioned, the USGS (again, that's who YOU like to follow, you said) did a study and found that all of his work was based on incorrect "pseudo-science" with no real scientific backing.

Sorry, Ally, but you mentioning Browning does not help your case at all. The guy was wrong in pretty much all of his beliefs related to this sort of thing -- and proven wrong by the USGS themselves!

OK, if you live in a quake prone area, google a chart for moon perigee. Print it out and mark the dates. Then go to a chart for new moon and mark those dates. If two of the dates are the same, then maybe take your good china in the china closet and make sure it's secure for those days. I don't know where Richard is getting his non information but these predictions work at least some of the time and its worth knowing about and no solar flares have nothing to do with quakes. They mess up radio communication and disturb the earth's magnetic field to create the auroras. --173.61.xxx.xx

OK,Dr. Iben Browning was a biophysicist and well qualified to make predictions involving the physics of our earth. He did actually predict the 1989 San Francisco quake A WEEK IN ADVANCE. He also predicted the eruption of Mt. St. Helens' in 1980. Looks like some people only want to mention his failures not his successes. His failed prediction for a quake on the New Madrid fault was that there was a 50/50 chance. People and the press over reacted. Here's a interesting fact. Prior to the tsunami in Phuket years ago, all the elephants bolted from their ties and fled into the hills. --173.61.xxx.xx

Sorry, didn’t mean to confuse the arguments by throwing ‘ sunspots and solar stuff’ into the mix. That relates to other arguments I’ve heard from people who had said microwaves only exist in kitchens.... .which is a different conversation... sorry, did NOT mean to confuse things.

My point was that a young couple I know who have a bit of science/ tech background, and live in volcano territory do watch for signs, are making plans to protect their property, though not rental investments. They are expecting sooner rather than later. No, they didn’t say it was do to this, that, or the other thing, but, they had reasons to believe it would be soon. And are making plans to protect what they have worked for.

And, after the wildfires that have occurred out their the last few years, they do have a few extra provisions, such as masks for everyone in their family. Last time we visited, the sunset had an odd glow, as the air was dense with ash from wildfires, some a state away. Not nearly as thick as the volcanic ash when St Helen last erupted. People walking in cities were wearing surgical masks. Wasn’t too bad out by my family. But, they remember clearing up after St Helen went last time, and the other volcanoes are closer.

I’m sitting in a foreign country right now, haven’t watchedthe news much in the last few days, but finally today watched. According to the news here, America has been doing a whole lot of shaking and quaking in the last few days, geysers going off a bit much too. So, are some of you saying there havn’t been any quakes? Because the media over here sure seems to think so? And, they said it’s been big and long quakes, and that guysers have been erupting more frequently?
