Here is a new one for me. Tenants CO alarm going off. Fire Dept arrives - checks gas water heater, gas boiler ---- no issue with CO.
Checks gas stove and CO levels are through the roof.
This is a 1.3 year old frigidare stove bought brand new.
I have never had a carbon monoxide issue with a stove before.
Anyone ever had a problem with a stove like this ?
The landlord (me) supplied CO monitor saved a life today...

Quality control on appliances is not what it used to be. Many are now made overseas.
Just one more reason to let tenants supply their own.
Good on you for supplying the CO device. Well done!

So guessing not a gas leak since you say CO monitor and not a gas detector.
Be interesting if you find out why. Bad burner not working right? --73.152.xx.xxx |

Was it when the stove was firing? --99.59.x.xxx |

Many careless tenants allow a pot to boil over on the stove top. Then later on after the stove top parts cool down, they attempt to clean things. The tenant lifts up the burners to clean and when the go to replace them things don't perfectly line up allowing gas to escape into the room. This is one cause that trips off the C/O alarms -- thus saving lives.
Know this I install lock down screws so the burners can't be removed or fall out of alignment. --47.156.xx.xx |

DnB,
Congrats on having the CO detector in place.
What was creating the CO? Gas has to be burning to create CO. Had the res been using the stove to heat the house? (it has been cool at night here in Indiana)
Are the cooking flames yellow rather than blue?
Were they testing the closed oven with a burning pilot light?
Up close to the flame the CO might be high but the stove is designed for short periods of use in a room full of air. No venting required.
A cracked gas line would allow gas to leak into the air with an awful smell.

Tenant was using the oven to make dinner. CO alarms began to go off.
When fire dept arrived they were very thorough and methodical about checking each potential cause. They disconnected the stove from gas line, inspected the gas line and reconnected the stove. They then turned on the gas burners and once again their CO testers went wild.
There was no reported gas smell.
I have a new stove being delivered today ! --98.216.xx.x |

Glad the CO did it's job.
I've never heard of a gas stove making enough CO to set off the alarms. I wonder if something was different with the air conditions in the apartment that might have caused the CO to more concentrated than normal.
"They then turned on the gas burners", did they only test the top burners or did they also test the oven?
Have you contacted Frigidaire about this? I would think they might be able to shed some light on what happened or at least replace the stove.

Some tenants like to place foil on the bottom of the oven to catch food spills. This is a dangerous thing to do in a gas oven. It can block air inlet holes and cause CO buildup. --107.141.xx.xxx |

In my early renting days (20 yrs ago) -- a tenant put up co 2 detectors. After 2 months of living there they went off. She called the fire department. The fire chief narrowed it down to all the leftover food under the stove hood..... Filthy.
about 6 weeks ago I posted about gas stoves-- some models allow you to turn on the burner knob a ways before the ignition starts clicking. I contacted Frigidaire about this-- but all the frigidaires have the same.
One of my employees showed me a kids video showing kids how to do this--- KIDS???? Same site that showed kids how to stab their parents while they slept. You can't make this up.
My guy entered the house after the gas was on 3 hr.s-- lucky the whole house didn't explode. Turned off main and opened doors. (all employees should know what to do in these situations! --99.103.xxx.xxx |

The stove just needs the air valve adjusted to get the air-fuel ratio correct. --76.188.xxx.xx |

Does this air valve ratio really work to fix the problem ? how hard is it to adjust ?
So I had a new gas stove delivered to the property yest. The local appliance store delivered the wrong stove and installed it. Two hours later they call and told me they made a mistake in stoves and needed to return to swap out the stoves.
The best part is I get a bill for two installs - - I'll be on the phone with them this morning. Used a CC to pay and can dispute charges if they do not fix the install charge.
Its always something... --98.216.xx.x |

DnB, did they pull a permit & have it installed by a licensed gas fitter as required in MA? Since the FD has already been on site you want to be sure to cover all of your bases. --96.237.xx.xx |
