I used a service like that twice and ended up with bozos coming out that cost me money and didn't know what to do. The guy with the license was not coming out. My licensed semi retired electrician looked into their practices and found that the people who said they were electricians were not licensed and Angie's List or the other one simply send them a questionnaire asking what jobs they could do or what they have done in the past. Licensed pros are now turning away business from Angie's list and other middlemen entities.
The main reason: the pay.
A friend of mine (an old time competent contractor) told me that Angie's list was quick to post what a bitter and a negative customer reported about him, without doing a minimal investigation.
I never knew why he took a job that came from Angie's, he always had plenty of work, but he did, and now he doesn't even returns their job offers.

All these middleman types are worthless. Whether it's contractors, child care, maids pet services or anything.
They are in business to make money for themselves.
The review sites like yelp and others are equally worthless and easy to post fake reviews or demeaning stuff about competition.

I have used them in the past with great success, but I think they changed their business model. When I was using them, you put in type ofcontractor and area, read the reviews and reached out to who you wanted to. Now I think it is a different process. --24.61.xxx.xx |
