RobertJ, I just wanted to say I’m glad to see your still posting after the “incident”. Also, I’m not sure of the imposters intent, (joke or malicious) but either way I thought it was unacceptable. As I read some of your posts I am asking myself, is this true, but I also have learned from some of your posts. At any rate, I’m glad you weren’t bullied away, and thank you for sharing your experience, real, modified, or made up I still enjoy reading them. --71.248.xxx.xxx

Thank you JKJ for your kind words. I wasn't happy about the post. While some of my stories are hard to believe, I've been working with rentals for more than 41 years. Most of my clients, when I was doing outside work as a licensed contractor, was with other professional landlords. They shared their knowledge and experiences with me and in turn I gave them sound advice.
Many people learn one way to do something and don't think about improvement. Unless we keep up on the current laws and scams tenants pull, we will end up loosing out in the long run.
I have many, wonderful experiences but tend to share the negative ones here so others don't try to take short cuts instead of doing things the right (not always easy) way. --47.156.xx.xx

My 2 cents:
For those who read Robert J's posts with disbelief, doubt and amazement, let me just tell you, as a LL in LA since 1976, I see crazy things have happened and are happening in this business in LA.
I don't know Robert J personally, but he is probably 97% on the money cause many of the things he is talking about happened to me too.
I think the LA rental system is about to cave under its own weight, something is going to give. And when it does, it will not favor LLs, especially mom n pop LLs. --99.59.x.xxx

The situation in the province of Ontario many of the smaller rental housing providers have sold to very large corporations which kick out, renovate then in some cases double rents. For the last five years annual allowed rent increases under rent control where less then increases in annual operating costs. There is a austerity provincial government that states it is business friendly where will have wait to see what happens. --69.79.xxx.xxx

Keep up the good work Robert J. I enjoy your stories and insight. As I said in a previous post you have provided me and others with some useful information. We all have some things in common that happen to us as landlords and then depending upon your tenants, your location, your neighborhood, your number of properties, your years of experience and etc. will bring in different aggravations, experiences and challenges. --12.47.xx.xx

I suspect Robert J doesn't care too much what anyone thinks. Personally after 33 years of doing this without his amount of volume I'm not surprised by any of his experiences. Don't confuse confidence and experience with hubris. --75.89.xx.xxx

I think you could make a really good book out of all these landlording stories. --73.231.xxx.xxx

Lisa nailed it... when you have a lot of experience, you go through more than most.... plain and simple... Robert, you need to come to the convention so we can all talk your ear off! Glad you're here! --173.25.xxx.xxx

Thanks for the post, and Robert J, it's indeed great that you continued to post without skipping a beat. Perhaps it's much like your style of landlording, figuring out a problem, fixing it immediately, and just keep on keeping on.
Some of your landlord stories remind me of the plot in "Chinatown" with life imitating art. --67.170.xxx.xxx

Robert J, I too second #22's suggestion above. It's been a while since I've last seen you and I (and I bet many others) would love to see you at our Convention next year. If at all possible, make plans to join us and participate in our evening round table discussions. A round table discussion with you will be like no other:) --100.4.xx.xx

I have to say that Robert J (and Robert from Ontario) make me very glad that I don’t do business where they do.
Times and regulations have changed. Some for the good and some not for the good. --70.16.xxx.xxx
