It's usually starts the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, but the official announcement isn't until around the early part of the year. I registered for 2018 shortly after it was announced, and the date on my receipt says Jan 19th.
Locations vary. In recent years it has been in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Cleveland. Somewhere in the Mid-West usually. My recommendation is just block off the last 2 weeks of May and first week of June to be sure. --173.20.xxx.xxx |

DJ, I will continue to take suggestions. What I did say was that as of now it is a good chance, the 2020 Convention will be held in the same city (or perhaps the same Midwest state) where we have held a previous one. The previous Midwest locations include Indianapolis, St Louis, Nashville, and Cleveland. Again, I will continue to take suggestions. Three out of the last 5 years, the choice of the Convention was chosen because of the input of individuals on this Q&A. There have been other city suggestions that are not out of the realm of possibility which include Memphis, Little Rock and Kansas City. Please let me know your thoughts.
It is also true that it is a 95% probability that the 2020 Convention will be held either the weekend before Memorial day or the weekend following it.

I fly out of Norfolk, too - but can't get many flights directly to anywhere.
I would like Minneapolis/St.Paul as an option.

Airline ticket prices start to climb right around/after Memorial Day, so I'd vote for before. Two weeks before would be even better, as that's before the kids are out of school and it's easier to arrange supervision for them. Cleveland is an awesome location for me!

Another vote for any weekend other than a holiday weekend, regardless of the holiday.
City doesn't matter much to me. Would like to see them change each year so I can add new ones to my list of places I've been, but not a big deal either way.

Airport is world class and is a hub for a couple different carriers.
It is as central as you can get I'll be the first one to sign up too.
Then again I am a Southern Illinois undergrad almu too
Choice between St Louis and Chicago is no contest. Carbondale might have been closer to StL, but Chicago offers so much more

Indianapolis is a great convention city. Lots of rooms from high end to budget. You can stay in the suburbs (Greenwood, Southside Indy and you can be downtown in 20 minutes or less).
Lots of things to do wether you’re into the bar scene or like museums, etc. (we have the largest or 2nd largest children’s museum in the nation. Don't let the name fool you, adults can spend a whole day in there and have a good time.)
We have many monuments to visit. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the center of the city is very cool, and a good place to eat lunch and people watch, as well as a pretty nice city zoo.
Great restaurants, and the downtown is a very easily walkable and safe area.

Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, Memphis, Charlotte, and Atlanta would be good for me.

My husband belongs to a group that seems to have it's conventions at Casino Resorts, -not a gambler but they do have nice some nice ammenities/areas. In that vein, i'll throw out how unique Dubuque, IA was. Also a step back in time with European grandeur is French Lick, IN but it is rather in the middle of nowhere. I suppose Louisville would be the closest airport, or Evansville. Prefer before Memorial Day weekend and the summer activities gets into full swing. --69.160.xxx.xxx |

I love the idea of Chicago...it is centrally located for all with great airports and lots to do in the city before/after the convention (proximity to WI is also nice). I honestly prefer Memorial Day weekend as it always gives us the Monday as an additional day of rest after the convention concludes with all of the marathon days. --174.82.xxx.xx |
