This whole crypto thing is still a little confusing to me.

I have 20 BCH-SV on a coinbase account from the hard fork back in November. Coinbase doesn't support it, all I can do is withdraw it. I am trying to figure out how to get the money into my checking/bank account. Since I can't convert it to cash and withdraw on coinbase (only send it) and I can't send it as crypto to the bank...could someone give me suggestions/steps on how to convert it to cash for deposit to the bank?

I'm seeing an article entitled "Coinbase users can now withdraw Bitcoin SV following BCH fork" from three months ago over at Techcrunch. --96.46.xxx.xx

I'm not trying to post the whole article, just the last two paragraphs, but it won't even let me get past the first paragraph, and I don't know what's interfering. :(

It basically sez, CB doesn't support trading in that for now. You can withdraw, but you can't purchase additional. The b.s.v. were trading at $63/coin three months ago; the b.c.h. were trading at $122/coin three months ago.

It pointed out that it took CB three months to allow you to control your own currency, so get into the habit of not leaving your stuff on an exchange, but instead, control your own stuff from a wallet using a hardware device, or at least a secure software device. --96.46.xxx.xx

So-- since all you want to do is withdraw-- CB should allow you to do that now, as of Feb 15, 2019. Does CB not have a support feature to walk you through the process? --96.46.xxx.xx

Deanna, the issue is I can not figure out how to convert it to USD for deposit into my traditional checking account. All other crypto I have on counbase are easy to do. This one isn't. Generally I would "sell" to my coinbase USD wallet and then withdraw the funds. They don't support this option for this particular crypto. I guess what I may be looking for is an alternative to coinbase where I could transfer the crypto to and then convert to USD and withdraw funds to my traditional bank account. I believe I can figure out how to send it somewhere, I can't send it to my bank until it's converted to USD. --174.255.xxx.xxx

Hi Barbara! Since it doesn't sound like you want to keep it as BCH-SV (BSV) and just want to convert it to cash or something else, you'll need to transfer it to an exchange and then do something with it there (such as trade for cash if it supports direct withdraw -- or some other coin).

There are some more complex ways to do it that might save you a few bucks -- but the simpler method would probably be something like this (especially if you still have/want BCH -- or just want an easy way to get it to your bank):

[trying to post in pieces to get this to go through. Here's part 2...]

- Create an account at another Exchange that supports BSV such as CoinEx.

- Get your BCH-SV recv'ing addr from CoinEx that you use for transferring coins there.

- Use the Withdraw feature at CoinBase and withdraw your BCH-SV to the CoinEx address.

- At CoinEx, use the BCH/BSV exchange to sell your BCH-SV for BCH.

- Transfer your new BCH back to your CoinBase account (by going to CoinBase to get your BCH receiving address and then send it there from CoinEx)

Then you'll end up with that BCH-SV converted to BCH in your CoinBase account. At that point, since you're already familiar with CoinBase, you can do whatever with it (leave it there, sell and withdraw as cash to your bank account, and so on).

John..I think I just managed to figure out how to transfer crypto over to coinex. I only sent 1 over as a test. Coinex stated could take little while and would notify me when funds available. My question at this point is....assuming it goes thru, would I send the remainder of my bsv to the same address? --174.255.xxx.xx

In general, yes, an exchange assigns you your own receiving address and you can continue to use it. I haven't used CoinEx myself, but I assume it is the same. You should be able to look once that one completes and make sure they give you the same receiving address for more.

John...roflmao. my mistake for not asking you for a site your familiar with. So, I found coinex very confusing to navigate. At least for a beginner. I periodically hear negative stuff about coinbase, but I have to give them credit...it's easy.

Anyhow, managed to swap the BSV for BAT...don't ask me why as I have no answer at this time. Bats are cute. I would simply do the same for bat to coinbase as I did with BSV but in "reverse? --68.107.xxx.x

The problem is that there aren't a lot of exchanges that deal with B-SV any more. I don't have any B-SV. (Well, I have like $20 worth -- not enough for me to worry about, so I haven't bothered.) The popular exchanges simply don't support it.

Coinbase doesn't support BAT either, does it? If not, then you can send it there. If you want to be able to cash out, you'd want to convert to something that is supported on Coinbase for immediate cash-out/withdraw.

Oh, wait, looking now, it looks like CB does support BAT now. So, yes, you'll want to get your BAT receiving address at CoinBase and send it there. Sounds good!

Awesome! Good luck with everything! I have two little collections of crypto -- one from "investing" where I just bought some early on -- and one from "mining" where I actually mined it myself. Neither is a huge pot -- I'm not going to be a millionaire from it even if it takes off -- but enough for a little vacation to the Caribbean or something, at least. :)
