I have a house that has mellow yellow siding and it's not exciting to me. I want to fix it up to sell or could rent to high end tenant. I would like to find a head turning color to paint the siding. The roof is brown so I'm limited by that. Ideas? --75.187.xx.xx |

A bone color blends in nicely with that brown roof. --174.198.xx.xxx |

Go to your local paint store. They will have scores of brochures showing different color combinations on exteriors of homes. Find one you like and go with it. --70.182.xxx.x |

Out of the Box colors will be considered and I don't mind being a trend setter. --75.187.xx.xx |

My problem is that I'm not good at picking the color but I love art and when I see a house done well, done unique, I love it. --75.187.xx.xx |

We bought a new personal home last year and it was pale yellow with green shutters. Not my cup of tea! We had it repainted and the painter commented that he never gets requests for yellow! Therefore, you are on the right track in changing it. (We painted cedar siding medium gray, dark plum-brown shutters, dark gray front door, white trim.)
Whenever we paint exteriors, I do a google search- "exterior color with brown roof" and look at the images.
Not sure about your intended market, but my 31yo son and DIL just painted their house a dark blue with bright white trim. Looks crisp and clean. --73.110.xx.xx |

Thanks Sue for Google search idea. There have been a couple of times I've driven by a house and it was done so
well and unique that I went back and took a photo. It hasn't hasn't happened very often. I'm fixing up and selling these days and my motto is "Rebab is Art." I'm more in to the art than the money, of course I want to make a couple bucks. --75.187.xx.xx |

I'm like you, I color challenged but I know it after I see it. I generally go to the paint store and spend some time looking at the glossies that show different houses painted with different colors. Usually one of those will pop for me and then I go with those colors. I've had good luck doing this so far.
I've always been told by designers that if you really want it to pop, it takes two colors. One for the field and one for the trim. An accent door in a vibrant color is also a way to bring your eye to the entrance and offer some highlights, so possibly 3 colors. --50.26.xx.xxx |

The trouble here is that I've occasionally seen an out of the box color that looks exceptionally gorgeous. But without knowing the name and number of the color, I can't recommend it.
I've seen an eggplant purple house that really looked sharp, but that is the only time I've seen a purple house that looked good. Any other purple color would be a big mistake. --98.146.xxx.xxx |

I'm buying a new build with restricted colors, so I just drove around and decided which existing house had the best color. I'm getting a lighter bluish gray with a bone-ish tan trim and a darker tan door and garage door. Those colors look really good, but I don't have the name or codes.
I've got a picture of the color chips, but no name for them. --98.146.xxx.xxx |

I suggest that you drive through the really expensive neighborhoods and pick out a house color you like. Those houses have their colors chosen by professional designers.
Take a photo and take that to a good paint store and see what they can do to match those colors.
It's really important to have the trim color be right for the main color.
I've owned a house that was a blue-ish tan with a blue-ish forest green trim and that looked really good. The neighbor tried to copy it, but got the wrong green for the trim and his looked awful. The brown was called dry dock, but I can't remember what the green was. --98.146.xxx.xxx |

We're discussing paint colors here, but not about the basic quality of the paint. What paint variety does anyone recommend for use on brick? Of late, I've been extremely disappointed with the paint life. Paints which used to be good quality brands have now blistered and peeled en masse after just 3 years! --174.221.xxx.xx |

You need to use special, masonry paint on brick & concrete, and use proper prep - or it will peel as you described. --68.10.xxx.x |
