We just painted and sold a house, using grays, whites,

and blacks. I thought it looked pretty sharp but I was talking

to my daughter, who has pretty good taste, and she was saying

she's getting a little burnt out on all the grays. I get it and it caused me to wonder what the next colors are. They're probably already being used on the coasts. Input? --75.187.xx.xx

Some are leaving the cooler grays in favor of warmer grays, like gray-lilac or pewter gray.

Warmer neutrals in general are becoming popular-- Navajo White crops up as an example. Stark whites are also recommended for rooms that are lacking in natural white. Mushroom brown, pastel hazelnut, warm pastels.

Most of the trendy colors tend to be homeowner-type colors, though... very vibrant colors, like oranges/blues/dark greens, or colors people have strong feelings about, like pinks/corals/clays.

So... the trends are sort of a conglomerate of a lot of things that have been popular for a while-- which is good, because "timeless" wears a lot better than "trendy", unless your market expects "trendy." :) In which case, enjoy your clays and corals! :P --96.46.xxx.xx

Steve,

I watch IKEA. They are on top of it. Bold accents. Grey or black couch with wild colored pillows.

And model homes by the production builders. They know the local market.

Seeing greige in high end homes.

My millennial offspring are adding strong colored accent walls of rilliant lilac, yellow, bright green,

And (gulp) large pattern WALLPAPER! 12x18 grey streaked or woodgrain ceramic kitchen floor and shower wall tiles.

Grey washed wood tone flooring.

“Country” whitewashed stiff and SHIPLAP! courtesy of Fixer Upper Chip and Joanna Gaines.

In the end, clean and fresh sells

Quote from a home designer in the recent issue of Family Handyman: "In the US, trends start on the coasts and work their way to the middle. Right now, in coastal cities, I'm seeing a trend moving away from gray and beige in favor of creams and whites."

I KNEW I was doing the right thing by sticking with Dover White! :) --204.210.xxx.xxx

I knew as soon as I took the plunge into repose grey that it would change. Oh well, that's what they're getting for the next few years now.

After that, nothing but antique white walls and gloss white trim. Off the shelf. --50.107.xxx.xx
