Did an old lady thing and didn't remove batteries from controller so it's probably seized up in there and can't turn screw to open little gray case. Called installer but worse is that no air is coming out now at all. Without controller it goes into auto mode but fan is not running in outside part. So I shut it off. To remove and change fuses does the breaker have to be off? I ordered a controller on eBay and called installer to see what he can do. I have a big 220 unit that I haven't used in a couple years. I have to go outside in the morning and pull the plastic off. I hope it works. It's a big GE. I also hope it's not full of mold. Next option is to open one in a box in garage I bought as a spare and find a big guy to install it in a window. Option after that is to go buy another 220 unit and hope for fast install if that doesn't work. I have a floor model roll around but mice used it for a hotel this winter so afraid to blow air out of that and maybe virus with it. Can't have too many backups. It's only74 in here but was 80 something today and hotter tomorrow. Wednesday back in 70s for two days. I think I will find someone to put in a central even in just the first floor. I have radiators so it won't be too big. Asked a guy for an estimate last year and he kind of didn't want to do it; He subs it out anyway as I think he doesn't like to get his hands dirty. Dogs are OK as it will stay cooler on the floor. Thank you for any helpful comments upcoming.

Dn't know what your best option is, but I sympathize. My personal AC is out now, too - (and it's ONLY 22 years old) Glad I had a couple window shakers I could put in myself.
Best wishes --68.10.xxx.x |

I have good news. I started up by big 220 window unit this morning. It's only five years old and I stopped using it when I got the mini split five years ago. It's a GE and it's running like a champ. It had mouse dirt I could see where the air comes out so I got that out and vacuumed but I was still hit by flying mouse poo when it started running. My dogs are thankful for the cool air. . I don't know if the long rest has dried out seals and will lose coolant so I am cancelling a doctor's appointment to keep an eye on it. It's just a checkup anyway. So this old girl can still open a sticky aluminum six foot ladder and climb it.
DJ, sorry about your personal AC unit. Twenty two years! What brand is it? So people if you have a York AC only minisplit, throw it out now and get something else. The lord helps those that help themelves. --173.61.xxx.xx |

RUUD. Have always changed filters & taken care of it. I discovered a blown fuse (one of two 30Amps outside) but can't find a replacement - apparently it's an antique!
Might have to switch to an exterior circuit breaker, and "Hopefully" that's the only problem,!
Glad you got yours going with the easier option. --68.10.xxx.x |

What are the preferred brands of mini splits?
I'm thinking of getting a few installed for heating and cooling. --174.200.xx.xx |

DJ, I am going to get the minisplit installer out to get it going or replace it. I opened the metal box to see if there were any fuses but there were just two copper folded looking connectors and now I can't get it back in the handyman is coming by after lunch. He is going to put another small backup unit in my kitchen window just in case. I'm glad you can get a circuit breaker and not toss the RUUD.
Dodge, I would stick with the Japanese brands. They started the technology but they are more expensive. I found the installer when I put one in five years ago and York is what he sold. I have been through all the other local installers of AC and they sell Carrier products. I have a Fujitusu with heat and air at one of the units. --173.61.xxx.xx |

As an installer, I believe Mitsubishi is the best product. But Daikin is probably the best value.
With ANY minisplit, you will have problems finding parts in stock. No one keeps them, you always have to order them. --69.80.xx.xx |

We only have one unit with mini-splits. Working so far. But an install snafu kept dumping water inside rather than outside. After three different repair calls over 1 year's time, they finally figured out it was not leveled properly to dump the water outside rather than in... --50.82.xxx.xx |

The advantage with a split air conditioner is that a heat pump model is a little more expensive where the split can be used for heating as well. Installation is more complex where all the procedures must be followed. Like any new technology contractors have to become familiar with installation procedures. --147.194.xxx.xx |
