Good morning!
We are spending the day packing and cleaning the house that my son has been in the last 4 years. Yesterday, he graduated and received his commission. I was surprised that there were so few cadets to commission, and that he was the only new 2LT at the graduation he attended. There may have been others, but the U broke graduation into 3 ceremonies, and he was he only one at his ceremony.
The chancellor went off script and asked all newly commissioned 2LTs to stand, and he felt funny when he realized he was the only one standing.
Anyway, it will be strange to not have him around. He has been my right hand man since he was 14 with the rentals. He has learned so much over the years, and I’m both sorry to lose him, and thrilled at the young man he has grown into and what he has become. He finished a degree in mechanical engineering, and will be a logistics officer for the next few years.

Our job as parents is to guide our children to be responsible, independent adults. You have done your job well. Congratulations! - you and your son have new adventures awaiting, although most of them will not be together, it is all good. --108.4.xxx.xx |

Your job is well done.
It is hard to find out that your kid is not a kid anymore, but it is so much fun to watch them grow. --74.90.xx.xxx |

Wonderful news. You must be so proud of him and excited for him as well. He may surprise you one day by deciding he wants to take an active role in your rentals or start to grow his own portfolio.

Congratulations! Now you have to work through the transition to letting him go. Been there-done that (still working on it) - seeing and treating them as adults / equals. It is challenging for us - the parents- as well as the young adults.
What branch is he in? Do you know yet where he will be stationed? --68.10.xxx.x |

Barb
Military joke.
What is the difference between a Mechanical Engineer and a Civil Engineer?
One builds weapons; the other builds targets.

Good one, Mike!
Boy is an ME.
He is in the Army, and will be in Savannah, GA, working with ordinance for the 3rd ID.
For his commissioning, one grandfather who had served as an officer gave him his oath, and another who was enlisted was his first salute. What a moving ceremony. I was teary.
He has also found an awesome young woman that I really Hope sticks around. The next few months are going to be rough on them, as he as two TDYs before he PCS’s.
