My day started out with the showing of a rental of a lovely property to a young Section 8 person. Her mother had rented from us several years ago. As soon as she walked in she commented that she does not like houses that have the steps going upstairs as soon as you step inside. (Please forgive me!!) She proceeded to take photos of the interior as she went through the house. Never asked if this was ok with me. Guess she is not going to be a resident. At least she has the photos.
After we got home, the doorbell rings. Outside stands a lady who I do not know. She tells me who she is and and that she desperately (big RED flag) needs a 4 bedroom right away. I get her name, her "husbands" name and the Uncle's name who will also be living with them. I search the judicial records and their issues include arrest for drugs, assault . Also 4 times in court for nonpayment of rent with my real estate broker. Nervous about this criminal knowing where I live. Comments? --24.233.xxx.xx |

I guess since you are accepting Section 8 tenants, you are know to the locals as a "charity". Just lie, fill out some forms and get a nice place to live paying almost nothing a month. If people only know that you run full credit checks, call references and have "requirements" in order to by your tenant, no one would show up at your door, at least without an appointment. As for the woman showing up at your place, you should have mentioned that you would never rent to someone you do not know and who shows up at your doorstep uninvited. It would not surprise if this was actually an intimidation ploy to get you to reluctantly accept them (you check on them and they have criminal backgrounds). works 100% of the time. we also have arlo on the house.

Melinda: You should consider keeping these guys at a distance. They should not know where you live nor should they be making inquiries in person. I see no one f2f until the showing and they don't get to a showing until they pass my pre-screening. I don't talk to them to pre-screen as I text/message them a form to complete that covers that. Most don't bother to complete it and I check out those who do before scheduling a showing. I can't imagine someone ringing my doorbell talking about they want to rent a place. I have people stop and inquire about the studios sometimes. It's disconcerting to be sure. Luckily I can just tell them they stay full and that's that.

JKJ we love them. we have the 3 camera set. Have one pointing from our mud room door to the front door that covers the whole driveway. Another is mounted on its base pointing to the front of house to mud room door and covers garage door. The last one is on a tree in back that covers the whole back of the house. we use SKINS to cover them. the charge takes about 45 mins and last 25 to 30 days. We are in the pacific heading to Vancouver and it dings when someone is at the camera and allows us to talk with our son when he comes to the house. It also stores motions so you can page back into activity.
