Compulsive liar tenant stepped it up to a new level . This woman isn’t your average liar, she is crazy. Every time I talk to her it’s like I stepped into the Twighlight Zone. She needed an extra week to pay her rent, I agreed. She sometimes pays a few days late but always pays. Keeps the home spotless so I take the trade off. I just don’t ever trust her because she is like one of those crazy eyed women on the Lifetime movies. You know, the ones that end up picking a chainsaw or ax as their weapon of choice. Anyway, she calls and wants to talk to me through her “ translator” .... which is weird because we both speak English. So she starts speaking to translator in English and translator relays it to me in Spanish. I explain to to transltor that I speak English, like tenant . Poor translator was so confused. Tenant was trying to negotiate rent, I declined. In the end, tenant said they were moving out of state. Then they give me written notice that their new address is right around the corner from my rental. I’m confused but so relieved she is leaving. I’m not even going to argue about the short notice.

In this business some real gems float thru the slurry of healthy citizens and somehow seem to sparkle long after sunset, and once in awhile a good one will go bad.

Did she show any signs of being nuts when she was looking to rent your place? Was there any sign during the screening process that raised any type of flag? Anyway, I'm so glad that she's leaving for another "state". I'm guessing that her new landlord didn't contact you for references?

Did the translator charge her double. Once to translate to Spanish and a second time to translate back to English?

It's folly to diagnose at a distance but that behavior (odd remarks, stranger conversations, combined with fastidious housekeeping) reminds me of one I had, who was soon after diagnosed w/ bipolar episodes.

He underwent medical observation and then medications. Seemed to have solved the nasty language and constant F-bombs, but the fastidious housekeeping remained.

We’re all crazy in some way, some of us just hide it better than others.

I have not defriended my out of state tenant that left a few months ago, as I have been mesmerized by her "crazy" from a distance. After asking me if I'd be willing to give them a reference so they could get out of the junk RV they are living in, (cause they are freezing), I didn't respond (cause if you can't say something nice, don't say anything).
