A recent post about using Flex Seal under a kitchen cabinet got me thinking. I have a question for anyone who is familiar with the product:
Do you think it would work to seal a concrete slab from the TOP?
I have an addition in my own house (built before it was mine) Where they clearly did not put a vapor barrier under the concrete floor. Moisture wicked up under the carpet (it's also uneven - even after leveling it, so going with carpet). Anyway, before laying new carpet, I need to find some way to seal it.
Can anyone help?

Look into DryLock paint. I have used the paint on basement walls with success. It seals it well although you need to use the patch if you have a real leak. They now make some floor paints that might suit your needs. --108.44.xx.xxx |

RedGard from Home Depot or TEC Hydraflex is what you want, not DryLock. I think the RedGard is probably really it, but I’m using the TEC under my Allure since I can get it locally.
My new construction is on a slab, above the grade. There is a vapor barrier under the gravel, and I’m high enough not to be concerned. I still read everything I can find, did a moisture test, and decided on adding a vapor barrier. Halstead dcs say is I use a 6mil barrier or RedGard.
If you have the headspace, I would use DRICore or a similar system. --64.251.xxx.xxx |

I have used Drylock on vertical masonry walls and I've used Redgard for shower walls and base.
I think Redgard will be better in your case.
The commercial for Flex Seal they have a guy saw a boat in two, then put it together with Flex Seal and to the lake...yeah right. --99.59.x.xxx |

Isn't redgard used to prevent moisture from migrating down? which is slightly different as the slab is dry and you are protecting it. In basements where I have used drylock on the walls, it pushed moisture down and the floor becomes damper (which is still an improvement). My current place is on a hill and over the years as moisture has made its way down, more moisture follows. It's getting to the point where the dehumidifier runs all the time and the floor never dries out on that end of the basement. I'm all ears on a product that can seal a damp slab against moisture. If you have to actually patch anything where moisture is penetrating, use hydraulic cement. --24.194.xx.xx |

Fred, don't know if I really trust that guy and his sawsall, think I'll sit it out and let him try it himself.but putting a coat on the slab and a layer of 6 Mil poly over it might help..........charlie.........I don't trust everything I see................................................................sommdday I might even hit Mega Milllion, when it happens I'll post it here, so you saw it first....................................... --174.199.x.xxx |

Talks about installing Allure in a basement. I called to discuss it on slab. Note that near the end they say “or use RedGard”. That was what I asked about.
DRICore would likely be even better, but a waterproof membrane is still a waterproof membrane. --64.251.xxx.xxx |

small potatoes: That's what I've been concerned about. The products seem designed to keep water out of the concrete, and I need something to keep it from the "backside" - from coming out of the concrete. But, hopefully it will work since I don't seem to be able to find any better.
Seems like the Redgard will probably be the best bet.
Brad: Yeah, they all are. But gotta do something. The room is about 20 X 20, too - so I'll need a lot. Hopefully it will be worth it.
Thanks, everybody! --68.10.xxx.x |

The industry best is Sanitred. The floor or wall must be paint free but this stuff will seal it. I sandblasted a block wall basement and coated it with this stuff and no leaks what so ever. Thousands of 5 star ratings. --173.15.xx.xxx |
