mice killing liability (by Joseph [RI]) Posted on: May 23, 2018 8:51 AM
Message:

We own a 4 family unit, in which one tenant has mice.

Since a tenant in one of the other units has a cat, which theoretically could eat the poison we plan to put arund (or even eat a poisoned mouse), what king of liability should we be thinking about beforehand?

Any and all suggestions on this entire subject would be much appreciated

PS. There are no young children in any of these units.

Sticky traps in mouse unit. Then figure out how they are getting in and why. --174.255.xxx.xx

Please do not use poison. YOu will kill not only the cat on the premises but cats and wildlife on the whole street. Mice carry those pellets far around where the pellets and the poison mice are eaten by other. --73.178.xxx.xx

And you don't want kids getting those pellets either. Snap traps are my favorite, bait with peanut butter and a nugget of dry cat food. Put out lots, you will know how many you kill and when you don't get any for a while, you know you have knocked down the population. Then go and seal up all the areas that they are getting in along the foundation, and roof. --108.44.xx.xxx

I would first try the poison free traps.

Then next would be get 3 more cats or switch to poison bait. --73.152.xx.xxx

Ally, if a cat eats the mouse, it is very unlikely that the cat will be injured. The poison is no longer active once it has killed the mouse.

Available at feed store or Lowe's...plug in unit, three for $20. Put them in about six weeks ago.. No mice since. This is a rural county like setting. So if i was you I'd buy four sets one for each unit. Read the package maybe you could get away with less? --99.203.xx.xxx

mice killing liability (by Johnny B. [MA]) Posted on: May 23, 2018 11:37 AM

It’s best to not use poison inside the house. Once the mouse eats it and dies, then you have a smelly dead mouse in a likely inaccessible area of the house. Use traps instead. --24.147.xx.xxx

Proactively make sure the plumbing areas are well sealed, then inspect the unit in question for food sources that mice enjoy - you neglect too long and roaches will follow, when the tenant has closed the picnic basket the stick traps will be the best way. --76.188.xxx.xx
