I want to replace upper level condo floor bedroom carpet with hard floor, but worried about noise. It it ok to put gym rubber floor for underlayer, then put allure on top of the rubber. I assume that will be even quieter than carpet.

You had better check with your condo board. Many require pre approval of any underlayment you put under hardwood, laminate or vinyl plank.
You could install the new flooring and then have to remove it all if the allowed underlayment wasnt used. --65.94.xxx.xxx |

I warned a friend of the possible extra noise would result from replacing his carpet with laminate or wood flooring. He didn't listen. The HOA wouldn't get involved. So the owner below had to have sound proofing installed in their bedroom ceilings and walls to stop the clank of the upstairs lady waking in heals at all hours of the night.
The soundproof drywall cost to installed (labor and materials) plus the priming and painting was $3,500. The lower owner sued the owner above and won in small claims court.
So unless you take steps to put the very best sound proofing underlay system in place, it will cost you even more money in the end. --47.156.xx.xx |

I agree that carpet is needed in an upstairs unit ... unless you are willing to spend big bucks to sound proof. Perhaps young folks don't like carpet but would rather have wood/look ... they don't have any idea what the issues for the landlord will be.

Sorry, I dont intend to be rude. Its that I am a landlord in ontario canada and EVERYTHING is the landlords fault and responsibility here.
I would be careful of using rubber gym mats....i have
spent many hours around such mats.....in a small enclosed area there maybe an issue with off gassing....real or imaginary. --65.94.xxx.xxx |

A floating floor with a sound proof underlayment is much quieter than nailed down hardwood. But still not as quiet as carpet. If noise is still a problem after add area rugs for bedrooms, and high traffic areas. --142.254.xx.xx |
