State Specific Question About: WISCONSIN (WI)

Occassionally I have applicants that work for a large concern and although given a telephone no. I get the run around. "He or She is in another department" or sometimes I wonder if I am receiving the truth about their quality and dependability at work.

Sometimes I suspect that the telephone no. is a bogus number. A friend answers.

How can I find about thir dependability?

How can I find out if this person will be laid off??

However no one can tell you whether the person will be laid off. If someone is willing to give you that information, then I can almost guarantee they are faking it.

Red flag. Call your applicant back an tell them that they need to immediately provide you with the name and number of the person who will answer your questions. Failure to do this will mean the application is denied due to inability to verify.

You do not have time to play games; you need to find well-qualified, organized tenants. If they cannot bother themselves to make this information easily accessible to you, how much fun do you think they'll be once you rent to them?

I tell my applicants I will make one (and only one) call to further pursue information if not avaialble via what's on the application. Anything else is a waste of my time.

P.S. Verify the number using Anywho.com's reverse lookup feature. That will tell you who owns the number (Bob's Plumbing or just Bob the friend of the prospect). --204.80.xxx.xx

You should have a document that they sign with the questions you want to ask HR and a fax number given to you at the time the application is turned into you. You fax the written request for information. The appplicant should be made aware that their company should respond within a specific time frame. Same for checking landlord references. --70.189.xx.xxx

If given an employer, i look up that employer on switchboard dot com... get the phone number and call human resources.. or ask who you talk to to do an employment verification... also -- paycheck stubs or last years taxes might work.

If you question the validity of the phone number, check your phone book or call pretending to be interested in their products/services. If that call passes your test, call back later and ask for the human resources department.

A question I ask employers is "What are Mr. Smith's prospects for continued employment?" I recall one employer telling me that my applicant was going to be fired at the end of that week. --70.92.x.xx

ALDO - glad to see you here! Noticed your name on a few posts. We met back at OREIA years ago when Jeffrey was speaking. You had first started the Midwest gathering. --69.243.xxx.xx
