I liked the old Cabot stains when it was oil based. The kind you can wash the brushes doesn't hold up in traffic areas. The only oil type is semi transparent and restaining an old porch might not cover so what are you using if you need solid stain? --47.132.x.xx

Im with you the old formula was better. For new decks I'm not staining just letting them age. Thinking is they will last longer than me. Someone's worry. --172.59.xxx.xx

I also loved the old Cabots oil stain. They are now owned by a different company. And add in the EPA reg',s. Oil base is no longer really a oil base for any brand.

My go-to for a stan I can buy local. Is Flood a solid stain. Not great, but the best of the available ones. Still only 3 to 5 years before recoat. Solids outlast semi-transparents.

For a close to oil base product that really lasts.

Is Armstrong - Clark semi Solid oil. Not cheap, and I have to order. But worth it to me since it will last 2 or 3 times longer.

There is one so called oil base that is made by TWP . That would be my second choice. But the Armstrong Clark was more durable for us. --73.99.xxx.xxx
