In our bathroom we would see about 1 every month or two. Lately it is 2-3 a day. Are they spreading out because it is spring? I have poison (terro) down and have for a couple weeks.

I assume they are coming out of dormancy but last year we never saw this many - ever, not even close. --74.81.xxx.xx |

Yes, definitely because of spring. Put out a 50-50 mix of borax and sugar. --24.152.xxx.xx |

Any dead trees near your house? --24.152.xxx.xx |

To build on NE's reply: or any other rotten wood nearby?
Several years ago I had a problem with increasing numbers of ants in the bathroom every spring.
Turns out there was water infiltration by the window (I HATE a window over the shower/tub!), and the wall was rotten and had to be rebuilt.
They apparently love to build a nest in such a place. Could hardly believe how many were in there! --68.229.xxx.xxx |

tree leftovers - mulch, like your favorite university football blanket, increase the boric acid ratio. --184.59.xxx.xx |

I'd be looking for a water issue. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Carpenter ants love water. Getting more than the occasional ant in there would lead me to believe you have a small leak somewhere. Either a rotten board or even just a water/drain leak.
I have never used borax to kill bugs, but I hear about it often on this site.
My bug guy says that he uses Termidor on carpenter ants. It is the same chem he uses for termites. If they are like other colony type insects you need to get to the queen. So use a chem that allows that to happen.
In the meantime find the water source. --107.147.xx.xx |

Had regular carpenter ant invasions in a rental. When I had the windows replaced and the window trim wrapped with aluminum, ( Window World) the invasions greatly reduced. So, in my case, likely water was getting in the old wooden window trim. Tenant hasn't seen any in a couple of years. --72.135.xxx.xx |

Agree you have moisture rotting framing in a wall somewhere, perhaps near a window. --172.59.xxx.xxx |
