I am considering offering renters insurance as part of the rental package and price. I am requiring it anyway so why not just include it in the rental package.
For those of you who pay the renters insurance(RI) for your tenants, how do you set that up?
Do you put it in there name and then just have the insurance company bill you?
Do you just have them let you know when they receive the bill for renewal?
How do you keep track of it?
If there is a claim to be made, is it still the renter that has to put in the claim?
Basically, how does all this get set up and work?
Thank you for your time. --73.120.xx.xxx |

1. Check this site first and see what they offer.
2. There are other companies as well. Lemonade (dot ...) comes to mind. --24.180.xx.xx |

Have you spoken to your insurance agent to ask how they would set it up? Or if it can even be done at all? --76.178.xxx.xxx |

I talked to my agent about this. Can't be done. Oh I can pay for the insurance, but the tenant is free to cancel it at any time and get a refund. Issued to them. --50.82.xxx.xxx |

I agree with wmh. Someone on here said they purchase policies for their tenants on line. An insurance policy is a contract. I have no idea how a landlord can enter into a contract on behalf of the tenant without their consent. --72.70.xxx.xx |

I had my insurance agent set up a plan for a $100,000 joint liability policy between the tenant and owner, plus tenants contents. I would pay the annual premium at the issue of the policy. The cost was around $35 per month, or $350 paid at once.

I haven't yet - until my next new tenant. But, we are allowed to purchase renter's insurance on behalf of the tenant in VA.
We may add it to and collect it with the rent every month, then pay it - to make sure it is paid. The tenant does have to sign to get the policy, and I would be additional insured (I believe that is the term) --68.229.xxx.xxx |

Thank you all.
I will talk to my agent and look at what Richard recommended.
DJ, I believe it is additional interest as that has them notify you when it is renewal time or if it was cancelled. That is the way it has worked for me. --73.120.xx.xxx |

My local agent gives me an accord sheet for the resident to fill out. All I need to do is turn it in after it is filled out
You will get a report from Nexus when the policy is ever cancelled --24.154.xx.x |
