Just received a request to feed a tenant’s turtles once a week while the tenant travels for 3 weeks.

Ha ha!!!

Did they at least pay pet fees?? That is so funny --47.188.xx.xx

Why would they even ask you? --174.201.xx.xxx

New request (by Hoosier [IN]) Sep 2, 2019 3:33 PM
Message:

LOL that's a good one.

I must admit that I have offered to my tenants that I would cut their grass once a year (for a charge) if they go on vacation or something. Our city has an overgrown lawn ordinance that could result in very high fees if you don't cut your grass...so I offer this to all my tenants. For $35 I'll bring over my mower and mow the grass if you pay in advance and give me 2 weeks notice.

So far I've had two people take me up on it. I have the option of farming it out to a pro also if I'm busy....they charge about the same thing. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Hahaha, I once had a new tenant (was in the unit less than a week) ask my wife if she would watch his kids while he took a nap before he went to work (he worked the 11 pm to 7 am shift. --72.224.xxx.xxx

You might send them a recipe for turtle soup and see if they still want you to do it. --50.26.xx.xxx

Message:

The turtle soup idea is good. You might also mention you are part of an underground, illegal ring of Turtle Fight Promoters, and you've been looking for some younger contestants. --70.92.xx.xx

we don't gett hat close to tenants for pet requests??? mowing is 200.00 for front and 200.00 for back if they don't do it. 35.00$ REALLY --99.103.xxx.xxx

How sweet! Are you going to do that? You could be checkin on other things too, like furnace filters and neighbors. Leeks? Do you charge a fee for that? What do turtles eat? --184.206.xx.xxx

If this is the same place with "Rocky" the Flying Squirrel, they know how great you are with animals & felt safe leaving "Donatello" the Ninja Turtle with you. (g)

Our first rental property was a 3 family that we lived in. We use to get similar requests from tenants in the other 2 units. --71.174.xxx.xx

Thanks for the soup and fighting laughs. I don’t get close to tenants. It’s all business. He has been there 3-4 years. My jaw hit the floor when I got the email. I think he was desperate.

New request (by Still Learning [NH]) Sep 2, 2019 6:09 PM
Message:

Plenty, actually the bathroom needs painting along with some popcorn ceiling repair needed in the living room, along with giving me access to water to do some interior scrubbing of common hallway walls, so having access to his unit for that time period would allow me to do work I was delaying until he left. He had a healthy rent raise this year thinking he would move on and I would renovate but he stayed.

Steve, yes it’s the squirrel building:) --24.61.xxx.xx

Saying yes is setting up too high expectations. I am busy, can you do my laundry? --108.56.xxx.xx

New request (by JAC [OH]) Sep 2, 2019 9:18 PM
Message:

It's once a week for 3 weeks and you are helping out with a pet. It's not like you are doing their laundry. Like you said it gives you access to the unit for some work. A win/win I see it. --74.215.xx.xxx

New request (by Jim in O C [CA]) Sep 3, 2019 11:52 AM
Message:

I would say no. All you need is for the turtle to die and your are a negligent landlord. Hire somebody but not you.

Your opening the door to other ridiculous requests like pick you up at the garage when their car is being worked on and drop them off at work and pick them up and . --99.23.xxx.x

How many turtles are you talking? Some guy in Levittown, PA was arrested, jailed, and fined $250,000. for poaching and selling Diamondback Terrapins. I think that he made half a million doing this over the course of 6 years. He stole them (hatchlings and adult females)out of the wetlands of southern New Jersey. There were 3,400 (!) hatchlings in his garage when the police moved in after investigating him for a while.

Hope your tenant isn't involved in something illegal like that! ;) --98.115.xxx.xxx

Tell them you had a turtle once and caring for it would bring up too many painful memories. To this day I still can't look a turtle in the face without remembering poor skippy. It's still too soon. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I had a turtle in Florida. Well technically he (or she, we never knew) was a tortoise Used to take him on (very slow) walks in a nearby park. He liked eating the nice grass and plants the city provided. BTW, they bite! :D

He never really adjusted to living indoors so we let him go in a nice wild area.

Sometime remind me to tell you about the cat on a boat story... :D

Anyway, why not feed it if you are around. They are low maintenance. Just tear up some lettuce, they like grapes and apples and mangos... and fingers.

You are a really funny group. LOL

I agree it would be a good chance to inspect the property and get some needed repairs done. I don't think it would be a hard job to feed the turtle. Don't forget to water it. It would be better than it dying in there and stinking up the place because no one wanted to do it.

myob, "mowing is 200.00 for front and 200.00 for back".

Are you serious?!? LOL. Has anyone ever paid you? I bet your renters love you! --73.120.xx.xxx
