Mobile Banking (by GKARL [PA]) Aug 31, 2019 12:22 PM

Like many people here, I only collect rent through Zelle, Google Pay and direct deposit to my account. For the latter method, I generally transfer the money out via check. I can do it electronically but prefer to do it by check as it takes 3 days for electronic transfers to settle ( I use different banks). As I do it by check, this has required that I go to the bank or use the night depository.

My credit union just added mobile banking with the ability to take a photo of the check and deposit remotely. They scan all of the checks in the branch anyway and they just made this available via mobile banking. It's a way of outsourcing their clerical effort while creating convenience for customers. I love it however. I just made a few deposits using this feature from the comfort of my office. Funds are credited immediately and the checks clear in a day. Check float is a thing of the past anyway but much more so with this technology.

I have been using this for the past 4 years. It really brought into focus the amount of time wasted on trips to the bank. --67.43.xxx.xxx

I've been using that technology since it came out years ago (once I got a phone that took a decent photo.) It has come a long way - used to be more frustrating than helpful but now it works 99% of the time. --50.82.xxx.xx

I've been using this for a number of years as well. I love it. I used to know the tellers at the bank and we would chat every time I went in. I did like talking to them, but I don't miss the time wasted going to the bank. It's really convenient now. --68.102.xxx.xx

I will not go to the bank again unless I have a specific issue to resolve. I just deposited five different checks over the last couple of days and I'm in love with the system. --64.121.xxx.xxx

My friend coaches a rowing team. This friend was the first person I knew that used a phone to make deposits. This was a long long long time ago.

I liked the idea but switched to Venmo. Zelle is The banks getting together to compete with Venmo.

Doesn't Zelle clear instantly? If it doesn't, I would shift to Venmo.

Venmo seems to be hard on some people, meaning if you can't get a credit card of have made a mess out of your checking account you can't use Venmo. I use this knowledge as a screening tool.

Something funny about all of this. As the banks play catch-up and offer these services, I've found that I don't need the local banks for much of anything.

So I've slowly started closing accounts as they make banking more convenient. Irony.

I use cash for spending, Venmo for collecting. I still handle a check from time to time.

Thanks to all this new technology I see a time where statements will be a thing of the past. --96.241.xx.xx

How do you withdraw your money and get cash?

You can't get cash or cash a check through your phone can you?

If your check doesn't get deposited, that you took a picture of, then what? How do your correct that?

Pmh, I do. In fact that is how I pay for most things. I do not have or want credit cards. How do you access the funds that went into your account when you took a picture of the check? How do you pay for gas, groceries, dinning out, ect....? --73.120.xx.xxx

6x6... there is this little machine that is like every where. Inside building, outside along the road, some are even mobile... it's called atm.

Get a debit card. --76.77.xxx.xxx

Tim, If I am not mistaken, there is a fee for using some atm transactions. In that case I may as well get a credit card. The debit cards are not protected like a credit card if someone were to steel the number and make purchases. There have been a lot of cases where skimmers were used on atms, gas pumps, ect...this is why I would rather go in a bank building and get cash from a teller. I guess it is really old school and I know it takes time and millage but it works. --73.120.xx.xxx

6x6, debit has the same protection as credit cards. You just dont get to carry a balance. Dave Ramsey is a huge pusher of debit cards vs a credit card. Can't rack up a balance.

Find a large, local bank. If its chase bank, open an account. Get a debit card. Use chase atm machines for free. They have thousands of them...

For me, it's an interra credit union. Big in my area. Never too far away to get one. --76.77.xxx.xxx
