Tenant texts at 1:30am to say there is a bat in her house and she was going to stay at her boyfriend's. We called a Wildlife guy in the morning we used before for squirrels, but no promises he would find the bat; the charge still applies. We tried to find it and couldn't.

Anyone have to get rid of bats themselves? Any tips? The comoany didn't have appointments available today.

Use bedsheet or tennis racquet to encourage it to go out the open door. Kind of heard it along.

Probably does not have rabies. Let's hope. Use gloves and long sleeve shirt.

It got in there once so it will do it again. You need to find the entry point(s) and seal them up.

Wear leather gloves, your riding jacket, maybe the helmet too. Scoop them into a bucket, then, when you release outside, hold bucket high, on its side. Bats need to swoop down when they start flying. That's why you hold the bucket high.

When I had to do this, many years ago, different state, the bats ( 2) were clinging to the concrete block in the basement of an old, old house we were renting. When I tried to get them into an ice cream bucket, they so clung tightly to the block; I had to finally grab them to pull them off the wall, and boy! can those little critters hang on. When I grabbed them, they screamed, then I screamed, both of us terrified. Be prepared for screaming.

Is it warm there now? Seems odd to have them now if it's cooler but I really don't know when they start to come out and be more active.

It's not necessarily going to be easy to find it. I would check behind picture frames as well (larger ones) as they sometimes can get behind them too and "hide". If there is access to the attic from the apartment, I would check to see if the door is open or has a gap, etc. It doesn't take much to allow them to get through.

Once you do find it and get it outside I would look around for "signs" of them for their access to the property. If it's a "one off" then the tenant may have had a window open with no screen or a door open, etc that just allowed it to come in. You won't see signs.

The signs I'm referring to are droppings. You will most likely see it going down a wall (exterior) and a hole (maybe) where they are getting in. You may just see their droppings in a pile. I had one property where they were able to get in where a dormer of the roofline had a small gap. When I looked there was a huge pile of their droppings so that was the clue.

I sealed it with spray foam then I double gloved (maybe even triple gloved) and scooped the droppings up and double bagged them and threw it out. I then kept watching to see if the droppings came back (they were still entering there) and looked around the building to see if they were getting access anywhere else.

However, in MY case... the building already had a way for them to exit, this was the only way they could ENTER. You need to make sure they can get out if they are inside. That's a whole different process. Basically, just to make it "somewhat simple" you want to ensure that the attic/space is sealed and then you would take a pvc pipe (as an example) and have it so it goes from the inside, pokes out (like through a window with a screen around it or whatever - sealed completely around) and then once it is outside it bends down in a 90 degree angle for a foot or so. Do NOT seal the pipe itself, this is how they will get out of the building. They cannot get back in through this pipe though.

It was a warm sunny day of the eclipse. The Wildlife place said they start to come out of hibernation and are confused at first. Funny, my husband saw a bat flying around outside our house that night too.

We didn't see any holes, but I will look for droppings signs outside. Squirrels used to get in until we metalled up their entrance.

Tenant thought they may have gone into a vent so she put window screening over the vents. Keeping our eyes open.
