Plumbing leak (by jonny [NY]) Posted on: Mar 17, 2024 1:24 PM

Off topic... sort of :)

This morning I got up and was making coffee and as I was rinsing the pot and filling it up I heard what sounded like water "running" after I walked away. I didn't do anything, just went "hmm" at the time.

Then I was rinsing the filter basket and when I put the filter in it... I heard the "running water" sound again. It almost sounded as if there was water running on the "ground" AFTER I shut the water off.

I went back to the sink and turned it on again... heard it again a few seconds later... I then opened up the cabinet... no water but then saw that the pipe going to the wall was off. Great.

The way it is set up, it wasn't getting into the base of the cabinet because the wall is "open" some so if I wasn't listening or there was a lot of commotion, I may never have heard it for a while longer. We obviously use this sink daily, multiple times so I wonder how long it has been or is it just "something" was moved underneath that just happened to pull the pipe out and it's only been a day.

Whatever it is, it's fixed now BUT... it makes me wonder how long it would have taken a tenant to not only notice it but since it wasn't leaking and getting things wet under the sink "right away", how long they would have reported it to us.

Just a thought. Have a great day! --69.201.xx.xxx

I am thinking with boiling hot water poured there at one time the growth rate of the tubular pipe allowed the wall arm to slip from the trap adaptor there, plumbing name disenco- I have caused this myself doing a deep clean after illegal pets. I try to keep feces and flea free housing. --184.59.xxx.xx

Sounds like a slip-joint.

It would have taken a T at least 127 days to make the call,

after discovering it. --69.130.xxx.xxx

From what you described, they likely never would report it. --76.129.xxx.xx

After a year or two you would get the call that "suddenly, we hear water running" it would be suddenly and an emergency. --172.59.xxx.xxx
