I am looking to renovate my personal place, but the bathroom flooring will have to be done months before I do the rest of the place. Is it a problem if the bathroom LVP or SPC isn't an exact match for what I end up doing in the halls & rest of the place? The connecting would work fine as long as I get the same thickness? Or is there something else I need to consider here? I will either be doing a tan, light tan, or grey throughout.

It would look silly joined together. Break the flow with a transition strip under the bathroom door. --73.152.xx.xxx

consider the bathroom as a stand alone item and do it in a tile/ stone look. If you do keep it the same as the rest of the house consider buying all the product now and making sure it is from the same production run. --67.240.xx.xx

Even if you plan on running the whole flooring throughout, you'll have a hard time protecting that exposed edge. I agree-go with a different type of flooring. It will look fine.

I would buy enough to be able to do the complete house with matching flooring. You should probably buy 15% overage because using your bathroom as a starting point could end up using more product. --23.162.xx.xx

Definitely use a transition strip, no matter what flooring you use --68.229.xxx.xxx

In my house we went with what the boss wanted in each area. Master bath is one color, master bed matches the den and the living room. They are not attached. Kitchen is different and the half bath is ceramic.

Just plan on transition strips as needed that match the floors as best as possible.

If you are afraid of ruining the edge just put an extra piece down and tape it to the floor until you get to it. That sacrificial piece will save you a lot or worry during the process.

I put bamboo in a flip once. Did the entire downstairs of a pretty good sized house with it. Had to run it backwards into one bedroom, It was a pain, plus it ate up saw blades like crazy.

We put the house on market. I went back before we had a showing and found there was a hump in the floor about mid way thru the house. We had raised the cabinets so they weren't touching. But it was too long of a run.

Ended up taking it off market so we could cut the floor and install a transition strip. Not fun as it was a concrete floor and we did it close to the kitchen cabinets to make it look like we meant to do it. --107.147.xx.xx

Excellent question.

As a follow up to it, I do hope you are starting this process from the top down in each room. It makes it easier when you don't have to worry about what is under what you are working on.

Good luck with your project. Let us know how it is coming along --24.101.xxx.xxx

I install LVP. I would recommend buying enough to do all rooms you ever plan on doing. Yes you can use a transition strip between rooms...a few notes though:

1) Some manufacturers make exact match transition strips, others do not...check before you buy

2) If the floors are different heights, you can still use a transition strip as long as the difference is not too extreme...IMO up to about 3/8" would be ok. If it's going to be more than that, then I'd add underlayment to the lower floor to bring the height up.

3) If you can't find a matching transition strip, you can buy metal ones (not as nice IMO) that will go with any color.

4) Although using a transition strip is fine, IMO if you use too many it looks hideous and unprofessional. For example, imagine looking down a hallway where there are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a closet and seeing 5 transition strips!

Good luck. --64.38.xxx.xxx

I should have added 5) Not all transition strips are the same. Some are made to transition between two floors of the same height, and some are for floors of two different heights...make sure you get the right one. --64.38.xxx.xxx
