This is related to the discussion regarding Quickbooks and Microsoft office was mentioned. I bought a legit copy of Office professional plus 2019 on ebay for about $30 and it continues to work great.

I'll repeat some of what I said in another msg here.

I have found Libra Office Writer (word) and Calc (excel) extremely similar to MS office, and easy to use. But in Writer I have to make sure the extension selection is to .doc or it saves it in it's own default format (.odt). The only thing I couldn't do with it was to print an envelope easily, so I keep my old Word 2003 around for that. I wanted to use the Outlook in my 2003 Office copy but couldn't get that to work, so now I just use Gmail. --64.184.xx.xx

Google Docs and Google Sheets will do almost everything that Word and Excel will do - for free. It will serve all functions that most people would ever need. That's all I use for my rental business. --98.174.xxx.xxx

$30 for a legit copy of MS Office is good. I found though that all I do are Word and Excel, so half of the product isn't useful to me. I'm still working on an old copy of Office 2000! 24 years and still kickin'.

Google docs is okay, but somewhat limited. It's also online, and I don't always want everything I'm doing on the Google-webz. Too, I like having my software locally in case internet goes down I can still work. --184.4.xx.xx

Sid, I'm still using MS Office 2003 and was able to get an add-on that will open and write the docx, xlsx, etc. If something is working fine, why do I need to upgrade. That is my biggest peeve with computer operating systems and their compatibility with hardware like printers. I would still be using my Windows 2000 system except I couldn't get a printer driver for the newer printers and the newer internet browsers wouldn't work with Windows 2000 anymore. Planned obsolescence as we see with many other products in our world today. --99.165.xx.xxx

I have Office 2013 (purchased copy) but use Google forms/spreadsheets as well.

Gene, have you though about using virtual Windows 2000 if you have a printer that won't run in Windows 10/11? --64.246.xxx.xxx

We switched over to the google sheets stuff a couple years ago. I like that I can be in the same file and the boss can see what's going on live. No more double copies of the same file.

We download the files to multiple HDD and sometimes email them to ourselves, just in case.

Wanted to stick with Office but it got too expensive for what little we do with it.

We bought Softmaker which is a clone of Office. There were enough differences that it doesn't get used at all now. It was cheaper than Office and you store it all on your computer. But she wasn't happy with it, so I didn't really try. --107.147.xx.xx

So, just so people are aware, this was not a "legit copy" of Office 2019 for only $30.

EBay sellers that are selling cheap licenses for Office are selling illegal copies of Volume Licenses that are intended for a specific business. They acquire a license key from some company that likely has hundreds or thousands of licensed purchases and then resell them. They are not legal licenses according to Microsoft because they were designated for use only within that company.

We see this all the time. I can tell in this situation because Ed said that he bought "Office professional plus 2019". The "Pro Plus" edition of Office is only available from their Volume Licensing program. No retail version of "Pro Plus" exists. So you were sold a stolen license key.

Will it likely work? Yes. But it isn't legally licensed. It is no better than a pirated copy. Or, actually, is WORSE than a pirated copy because you paid a pirate for it. --107.181.xxx.x

mapleaf18, I had to get a newer printer when my old one died. The newer printer will print under the newer Windows operating systems, however, I don't have any print drivers for the printer that will work under the older Windows operating systems like Windows 2000 or XP.

My current system is Windows 7 Professional which came with a virtual Windows XP system. My rental software is RentRight 2.0 which is a Windows 95 application that still works under Windows XP. When I need to print something, I have it print everything as a PDF file that I then move to the Windows 7 side to print once a year.
