I have been buying a lot of appliances over the past two years. I like dealing with Lowe's and I don't like Home Depot for anything.

However, Lowe's DOESN'T INSTALL GAS RANGES! Unbelievable. Home Depot does.

Lowe's isn't doing well, and it's dumb stuff like that that doesn't help. I'm sure they are missing out on a lot of appliance sales.

Lowes has free delivery.

I have a husband and assorted handyguys/plumbers who can install stuff for me.

The hard part is just getting it safely in the house without having it blow out the back of a trailer on a windy day (check) or having to wrangle it up or down stairs, whether we're talking porch steps or a second floor.

I've stopped buying used appliances for that very reason. --166.137.xxx.xx

In my part of MA Home Depot uses Spirit Delivery 176 Grove St Franklin, MA. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. I purchased a refrigerator and had it scheduled for delivery, it was supposed to be delivered on a Tuesday between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. I got a call Tuesday night around 6 pm telling me they had to reschedule. After I had been calling and getting no return call to my message since noon. The next day they pulled the same stunt, both days my wife took off from work. The 3rd time I took off from work and same thing they canceled after they were supposed to be there. I said I can’t reschedule we’ve taken off 3 days already, you need to deliver it, and the lady said if you don’t stop yelling I’m hanging up. I said I’m not yelling (I wasn’t) I’m explaining to you I can’t reschedule and she hung up on me mid-sentence. I ended up having to rent a truck and pick it up from Spirits warehouse myself and hauling the old 1 away. After weeks fighting with Home Depot they gave me a $250 dollar store gift card for the disposal fee, rented truck, and aggravation. Look up Spirit Delivery reviews. And check if you are buying from a Home Depot in MA if they use Spirit Delivery, if they do RUN don’t walk out of the store and buy the appliance anywhere else. I will not buy another appliance from Home Depot as long as they are using that company. --174.192.xx.xxx

The Lowes store in our town is horrible with deliveries too.We have our handyman pick up the appliances. It usually takes them a half hour to find the appliance and then there is nobody to help him load it on his rented truck. Not a good situation. --24.233.xxx.xx

Lowes or HD (can't remember which one, perhaps both) uses subcontractors that I would never allow in my properties. About an hour away from me some subs got arrested for being drunk and one hitting another with a hammer/hatchet/ax/I forget. They were not even residents of this area - from perhaps Tennessee. the one whose photo they showed looked like TOTAL low life. --72.70.xxx.xx

Ah, interesting. I had asked the HD appliance department in my area if they had free delivery to my town, and they said it would be an $x delivery charge.

Then again, my town is about an hour away from their store, so perhaps if I was closer, HD would offer free delivery. The only problem with Lowes is that I don't get free next-day delivery that in-town people get, but they always come through my area on a designated day of the week, no charge. --96.46.xxx.xx

I think the problem with either company is they have truck drivers also trying to be mechanics installing appliances. The last gas range I had installed, they were going to install it without the tip bracket and when I asked about it, they seemed clueless. They found bracket and screwed it to the floor, but the range still was able to tip, as they didn’t align it properly. Finally, I got in there with a tape measure and they repositioned it per my instruction, and it worked. And same thing with leveling any appliance. I had one delivery guy who thought leveling meant that the refrigerator didn’t rock. I broke out my level and told him what feet to rotate and finally we got it. The list goes on and on. I’m not sure what the solution is, perhaps it’s just hire someone you trust to do the actual install. And Costco is not better btw. --100.1.xxx.xxx

I typically go through Lowes … HD doesn't (or at least didn't) have free delivery and their prices were always just a little bit higher. Then, even if they were cheaper - they would hit you with the delivery fee (same as what Sears use to do). Therefore - Lowes ALWAYS got the sale. Plus I would get the discount or decide to put it on the 18 month 0%.

Sometimes - if they have the deal that you use the mylowes you get 10% THEN you get the 5% OR the 0% to boot. Along with free delivery - BAM. --69.201.xx.xxx

I've run into this too, except Lowe's told me they wouldn't install the bracket at all because I have tile floors and they didn't want to accept liability for drilling into the floor. Luckily it's not a hard thing to DIY so I just used a diamond bit and put them in. --72.188.xxx.xxx

My local used appliance store is where I go for stove, refrigerator, washer, dryers. They rebuild them, warranty/repair them, deliver, install & remove old. I'm sure they rebuild it and sell it again.

But I am just starting to go to Lowes, after decades and a lot of money spent loyal to H. Depot. In the last several months I've had customer service change & totally screw up a special order, delivery issues, nobody in the store who knows anything how to straighten the errors out, or who knows how to order stuff - or anything, broken equipment (insulation blower) with no offer for compensation for my wasted day, etc.

H. Depot no longer carries unfinished kitchen cabinets, so I ordered some from Lowes. Smooth & friendly (& seemed knowledgeable) ordering process. 10% sale + 5% for using my new Lowes card. I heard later I may have also been able to stack on veterans discount - I'll have to look into that. But that may be either 5% veteran OR 5% using their card.

Anybody know? --68.10.xxx.x

Nearly identical GE low-end gas stove, both on sale.

Lowes $384, 10% coupon makes it $345, 5% off on their card makes it $327.

HD: $397, no discounts since it is on sale.

Also, HD here will only install it if you use their gas flex kit, one of the biggest box store markup items. HD price, $34, Amazon price for equal name brand flex $25.

So you are right it is $70 difference not $100, maybe $74 with difference in tax and $83 if you get your own flex. So I revise my statement, I'll take $83 for 10 minutes work any day. --50.26.xx.xxx

When replacing gas ranges/ovens, it's wise to test the oven for excessive Carbon Monoxide and adjust accordingly. I have seen MANY sleek, shiny, brand new ovens off the charts for CO. There are two adjustments inside the oven: gas pressure and an air band. Testing requires a specialized combustion analyzer that all good HVAC techs should own. --24.103.xxx.xxx

I usually price check between HD/Lowes,but for my management I mainly use HD because they have the PO# option to assign the specific property project, and the CC bill has every item itemized on the bill/statement. Lowes just gives the location, date and amount. Drives me crazy for accounting purposes.

Also, returns to HD are very easy! However, they have offered me cash as the refund option (also to refund the card), which can be messy when dealing with contractors. --70.183.xxx.xx

Horrendous delivery issue with HD a few years back involving 4 appliances being delivered to 3 units, one of which was occupied. They kept me there waiting until almost 9PM on a no show and then couldn’t deliver for another 7-10 days. Did fight and received a $550 discount on the appliances as part of a pro order. Lowes until recently did all deliveries in house. Never an issue until they went to 3rd party delivery. One delivery group refused to “install” the stove. He told me to call my electrician. I pitched a fit and he attached the plug. I always buy 2 not remembering whether it is a 3 or 4 prong outlet. After every delivery I stop by Lowes and ask for the manager to complain about the 3rd party delivery problems hoping they would return to in house delivery. I must say that last time the delivery guys were great, on time, no issues and I did stop at Lowes on the way home to let them know how well it went. Funny enough, there was another landlord ordering appliances complaining about his last delivery. I assured him, if he got the same group I had it would be a pleasant change. --24.61.xxx.xx

I needed a good inexpensive refrigerator delivered to a tenant quickly. So Home Depot had a sale. I tried to order and have the delivery done "online" with NO LUCK. So I had to call Home Depot's telephone "appliance" order number.

Everything, the order, extended warranty and delivery got handled via this phone call. In four days I was to receive an automated phone call with a 2 hour window for delivery. THE PHONE CALL NEVER CAME. Late in the evening before the date of delivery I spent 1 hour on the phone trying to confirm the delivery time. My tenant was willing to be home and accept delivery. But my tenant couldn't take the whole day off of work.

Home Depot promised that the next day, an hour before delivery, the would call me and I could meet them at the property. The call never came. I drove to my building before my tenant had to leave for work. Then I got the call -- THEY ARE DOWN THE STREET AND READY TO DELIVER!

EVERYTHING THAT HOME DEPOT TOLD ME ABOUT THE DELIVERY WAS A make believe story, not the truth. --47.156.xx.xx
