They are literally working on it as I write this, and I would be surprised it if doesn't happen.
The idiots in the legislature don't understand why rent control is not a solution. There will be all kind of unintended consequences to this stupidity.

Maybe you should give your MTM tenants a nice rent hike next month to get you in good standings for the annual 7%. Definitely bring everyone to market rates minimum. --108.69.xxx.xxx |

Just left a legislative hearing for a bill that would require landlords to pay for mediation of rent increases in manufactured housing parks if a certain % of home owners object to the increase for increases over $15 per month. --107.77.xx.xx |

In 2017 Indiana adopted a policy of not allowing local government to impose rent controls. I thought that is GREAT. Then I wondered if it was because they want to be the ones. You know a government is in real trouble when they try to micromanage and legislate everything. --216.23.xxx.xx |

Well it's about time, I'm getting priced out of Aspen and Telluride. They ought to require those greedy landlords to provide discount luxury housing for low income mere millionaires like me who are barely scraping by. ;)

Freedom and liberty are NOT passed down through the generations
You must fight for them every day
YOU need to scream at the top of your lungs to your representatives.
If you dont know your Reps on a 1st name basis make sure you change that quickly
uninformed/complacent electorate = basically, downfall of every democracy/representative form of gov’t ever.
your state may be a lost cause based on the last few elections - time to move

Offhand, I've thought that there should be an "equal dignity" law, requiring governments to also comply with laws on private citizens. Example: If private LLs have rent control and code enforcement, then government housing must comply with the same rent control and code enforcement. If carrying pistols for self defense is illegal, such as in NY or Ca, then government employees are barred from doing so as well. (Senator Feinstein and Harris supporting gun control while having CCWs themselves) Usually this isn't the case. --201.140.xxx.xx |

The rules in California are crazy. There was a temporary band on raising rents. If a tenant moved and they were paying under market rents, a landlord had to rent to the new tenant at the old rate. The City and State were exempt and would raise rents the market -- always.....They have no rent control. --47.156.xx.xx |

The basis for rent control is not to control rent but bankrupt private sector rental housing providers then the government becomes the sole rental housing provider with no rent control. I would bring in rigid system of rent review where eliminate the exceptions and loop holes then you say to the speculators if you are unhappy we will buy you out as quoted from the extreme left wing tenancy advocate group. One of tenancy advocates talked about reverse mortgages on rental apartment buildings where no one knows of a bank who would be interested in a building that would eventually become a slum. Why don't the tenancy advocate chairs tell people who is in charge as they do not want the tenants to know the chairs are actually own their houses. Rent control is legislating slums where over time it is going to look like someone bombed it out. If repairs and renovations are limited then the only way is completely destroy apartment buildings. When they brought in rent control in the province of Ontario there was wage and price controls where three years later they dropped the wage and price controls but rent controls remained. Ask the unions if they would agree to wage and price controls. Eventually like what has happened here there is going to be universal health care which is expensive as it takes a large percentage of the provincial and federal budget. Where is the money going to come from to build government non-profit rental housing. Most of the extreme left wing tenancy advocates do not know their ramshackles from hole in the ground which is putting it diplomatically. Ask the tenants if they would like to pay above market rents along with rental units only meeting the minimum building and fire code standards which is not going to be a nice rental unit to live in. www.frpo.org has articles on rent control in the province of Ontario as well as You Tube has good videos on rent control. --147.194.xxx.xx |
