I have a property that went down 6,783 in value for my current tax year which is going to save me around 177.00. off my property tax bill. I had some repairs done and I am thinking of going to the appraisals office to try to get that property lower or is it best to leave that property alone since I will be challenging other properties. Is it more difficult dealing with an appraiser that has already lowered a property and your going to try to get others lowered or will it not cause an issue. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would appreciate them , thanks. --75.87.xx.xxx

After they just lowered it and it saved you nearly $200 you think you might want to challenge it to get it even lower?

You might get it right back up to where it was (maybe worse). It also might affect the way they appraise the value of your property going forward.

Might be best to leave well enough alone. I don't know of any particular areas of the country that have been going down if value over the last year (accept OCA's New York) especially in TX. --24.20.xxx.xxx

absolutely dispute it if it should be lower. at worst no change and at best they bring it down more. where are you ? My houses in dentoncad & still waiting. --70.119.xxx.xxx

an aside to JB: they can’t raise it but they can lower it for current appraisals. nor will it be held against you. there are 1,000s who dispute each year here in the dentoncad. they don’t track and I have been successful many times in reducing further and values stay nominally similar yoy. the problem we have is CA $ coming to TX & jacking up values.... --70.119.xxx.xxx

Consider the rare gift of a lower tax appraisal and be thankful. Get too greedy, it could be raised. However, if you want to challenge it, look at the land value. In our area, they've been lowering the building but creeping up the land costs to come up with the total appraisal.

If land cost is too high, you may have a way to argue but I wouldn't push it. Especially since you will be haggling with other property values, unless you might add this to the pile. If it's personal, just leave it alone. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I differ LLOTF. they may bring down if you show why. they will not raise. I dispute many properties each year. the trick is to do at different times.... --70.119.xxx.xxx

I dispute each and every property every year, no matter if it goes up or goes down, they will see me disputing their value. Consider it a good learning experience. --75.141.xxx.xxx

Around here we make an improvement we get our property tax kicked up right away. I had a duplex with a run down concrete back porch. An appraiser came out and saw it and it wasn't on the current appraisal so he put it there and my property taxes went up. --173.61.xxx.xx
