Hi all. No one old me that there would be stumbling blocks! (j/k,)

The project is expanding and we want to replace our gas fired wall oven.

House was built in late 50's...old oven is 21 1/2" wide. Besides the fact that there are very few as ovens available, I am not finding ANY of this size.

Will be expanding my search but not seeing anything after an hour on line, I am perplexed.

Suggestions anyone? Oh...and going to a stand alone oven/cooktop will be a good bit difficult.

About 7 years ago I got a 12 unit bldg with those 21 inch ovens and the 3 burner cooktops, I had a hard time finding Westinghouse burner parts even though the manufacturing factory was about 3 miles away, so the first empty was empty about 3 months to allow cabinet changeover and a regular 30 inch electric range.

Hi again. Since posting I have been searching online and found a post from here dated 2004 (?) About the same issue. A solution is still being sought. --174.225.xxx.xx

Non-standard sizes, if you can find them, double the price of any appliance if not more. 18" dishwashers, 24" stoves, etc. And then if you ever have to fix it, more $$$$.

DH has found it more effective to somehow force a standard size - even if it means re-doing things initally. --50.82.xxx.xx

There are appliance places that service mobile homes. There is one on Route 130 below Freehold. They also sell propane. I haven't been down that way in a long time since used to go to Englishtown but they were well established and must still be there. They are I think, on the south lane side. I went there looking for small stoves to replace small Premier junk stoves in the four plexes. I ended up getting new cabinets and replacing premiers with 24 inch stoves for awhile. The Premiers that were in place were 20 inches. --173.61.xxx.xx

It might just not be available any more. If you do find one, it might be very expensive. Most people who put in a wall oven want it electric. Electric has better temperature control. I like to do baking so we put in a gas cook top and an electric wall oven next to it.

I would somehow try to fit a standard size oven in the kitchen. Have you looked at RV ovens, although I suspect they would be a stove and LP not natural gas. --108.4.xxx.xx

Since wall ovens and cook tops cost twice as much as a range and the small ones are hard to find, we converted the wall-oven space into a microwave oven shelf and replaced cooktops with ranges. Worked well and ultimately much less expensive. --23.30.xx.xxx

I needed a sub 24" stove and it was going to cost 900ish so I took a closer look and was able to move a fridge closer to an outer wall and then free up the counter and move it against the fridge gaining 2ish inches and space for a 24" stove.

If you have to get a small stove check out A&B Drimmer in Brooklyn NY. They are affordable, online and do LLs. --24.194.xx.xx

I've seen them at Restore... used of course. About five years ago they were plentiful on clearance at big box stores. --99.203.xx.xx

Hi all and many thanks for your input.

I went out on a appliance fact finding mission today and have found that most of my thoughts and ya'll's input has me re thinking the direction of the project.

UGH!

I did exactly what Kim did. I turned the oven area into a pantry and had my handyman make doors for it. Then took out the surface unit and the cab beneath and slid in a regular stove. I was putting on a new kitchen counter anyway, and the 30 inch piece of counter NOT used because the stove was there, I put on a cab in the laundry room. --108.87.xx.xxx
