Are you all seeing the CL ads in the "For Rent" section in your area with pictures of nice places with the watermark "STOP MAKING YOUR LANDLORD RICH?"
That ticks me off and it just feeds the stereotype that LLs are just greedy degenerates out ripping people off and stealing their money.

There's always someone exploiting this angle.
There's no end of tenants who will bite into this angle because some people want to believe the worst about anyone.
I'd bet it's a ripoff of the tenants and many will fall for it.

From past experience those who place those AD's are even greedier than LL's.

It is someone selling a house and targeting tenants. If your tenant asked you if they should buy the house next door or keep living in your house are you going to tell them to buy it ? or tell them the pitfalls and tell them they should keep renting from you? I would tell them the pitfalls --72.231.xxx.xxx |

Isn't it "rent to own" landlords who use this pitch? Ironic since the tenants usually end up losing money on these agreements. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

Yes usually it is the ones that are doing "rent to own". That's why so many people that just don't understand how things "really work" are about to get ripped off. It's unfortunate.
Many tenants are tenants for reasons and we all understand that (can't handle the money aspect basically). Some others just shouldn't be owners because even if they CAN afford a house they don't know how or what to do about "up keep".
I had two calls yesterday. One was from a tenant that indicated their fridge is not working. It stopped "a week ago". Wasn't sure what to do/ protocol for it. I just said "you should have told me about it a week ago - it would have been repaired or replaced by now". So now THEIR procrastination becomes MY EMERGENCY? I don't think so - yes, I'm going to take care of it but I'm not going to "rush over and get it handled within a few hours" since it took you 7 days to let me know...
The other phone call was "my kid tripped over their charger cord and it was half in - half out of the electrical socket and I think it shorted out because we have no power in that room now". I said "the breaker box is in the basement - did you check to see if it was tripped?"
"Oh, I don't do basements - can't you come over and see what's going on"? Sure - why not - I've got nothing better to do with my time.
Both of these particular tenants were originally asking if they could PURCHASE THE HOUSE (when they moved in). Either "rent to own" or "please let me know if you ever want to sell this - I'd love to buy it". Yeah - right … and how is that going to work out for you? --209.217.xxx.xx |

No matter housing is expensive. For rentals there are property taxes, maintenance and renovations as things wear out. A lot of tenants find out the reality of housing when they buy their own house then all of sudden the roof, heating system, structural or plumbing repairs are required. Some of real estate brochures state a house will carry like rent but forget then many components on a house have a life expectancy. Everyone wants to live for nothing but that is not possible in reality. Many of the tenancy advocate chairs actually own their houses when start to talk about pigs. Why not let some people live in those houses rent free then forget about lining your pockets with generous retirement. One of tenants said the tenancy advocates are getting close to half million a year with absolutely nothing to show for it other then supplying housing to less then hand full of people with there only concern is housing for themselves and taking money for retirement. Someone said those individuals are complete failures in life. --72.142.xxx.xxx |

I just don't understand? Why do all these tenants who claim landlords are greedy rent from them? If I hear of a business that supports a cause that I strongly disagree with, I don't complain, I go elsewhere. --50.77.xxx.xxx |

CGB - I couldn't agree more! That's what people with common sense do. Unfortunately people now days will make it their life's mission to conform to what their standards or expectations are. It's absolutely crazy!! --72.209.xxx.xxx |
