Guidelines from HUD say that tenants must make requests to their landlords for accommodations.

Adams testified in federal court Tuesday that she believes she wasn't required to tell Chen about Waffles, instead saying that it was her "right" to have the dog.

It will be interesting to watch how this plays out. Could help us all by getting some clarification on the books.

Notice how the writing in the article shows the confusion surrounding this topic. A few points:

"Waffles" the dog was referred to as an ESA at one point. Then later, the woman said she was posting pics about him to alert people to her service animal. Which is it: ESA or service animal?

The writer talks about the landlord requiring an additional pet deposit fee.... Deposit? Fee? Which is it?

So much confusion. I think we need a law that says, "any time a new law/regulation/mandate is passed, the Govt must educate all impacted parities to the fullest extent possible, or else no penalty applies to the violator."

I think we'd all be pretty pissed if someone slipped a rider into a bill that changes the speed limit on all interstate highways changed to 50 mph, but no one posted any signs to that effect, and then we started getting busted right and left for speeding.

Think of it: our legislators could be passing laws right now that you and I know nothing about, but if we fail to comply we can get sued into oblivion.

Only here in the "land of the free" do we make it the citizen's duty to keep track of constantly changing and ever increasing and sometimes contradictory series of laws, updates, ordinances, mandates, licensing, and regulatory requirements....

It seems the ESA or serve animal always in control. They do whatever they want. They call their animal ESA or service whatever they want. --97.91.xxx.xxx

This reads like typical BS and I'm wondering about the lawyer who took this on. There's no mention of her presenting a diagnosis justifying the purported ESA. --64.121.xxx.xxx

Rani,

Wow!

I'm not making fun of anyone with depression or anxiety problems but... a PRO WRESTLER needs "widdle baby Waffle Butts" to cope with life? along with her family, her baby, and her dog Noodles?

My guess is she did something to aggravate the LLs, triggering the eviction.

If you don't like the rules where you live, move.

Plus look at all the publicity!

I suggest folks who have problems seek professional counseling - free at just about any church.

PS This is a heads up to ALL LLs! If your lease is not clear about adding animals or "reasonable accommodations for special needs" you are exposed to the same lawsuits.

My lease is clear: it includes a policy for adding animals of any kind and a policy on how to request "reasonable accommodations.

It's a new world - we need new protections!
