Would you paint a vibrant purple kitchen?

Nicole of PA had her trademark Purple doors and that an excellent pop of color.

HOWEVER, if you had you own home a purple kitchen that's an individual choice and it may be your dream kitchen.

NE of PA or Ken of NY or CIMBA when they are flipping a house or other landlords are considering selling a house 99% of the time they will not paint purple kitchen cabinets.

There was a Zillow article that talked about how the color blue is a favorite color.

Tuxedo kitchen cabinets: top cabinets white and bottom cabinets navy blue.

Bathrooms a Periwinkle with a tint of gray!

Living rooms a taupe with a tint of peach or pink!

How many of you would consider stepping out of the box and painting Periwinkle bathrooms?

OR

Taupe Living Rooms?

Or Tuxedo Kitchens: top cabinets white? Base cabinets Navy Blue?

Front door Charcoal or Black?

Brad20K uses gray tone for his rentals. and he has major success with the color and the solid surface flooring.

There are many LL here that do not like the gray and have done it for years with the brown tones walls or white walls. The problem with some brown tones is there is a yellow tint to them and it looks dirty. The same can be said for white or off white they have a yellow undertone to them.

It may be the case in a few years the grays will not longer be a popular color. There are many landlords that have used a particular color and it works well for touch up during turnover and preparing the unit fro the next tenant.

Have you stepped outside the box in 2019?

AND

Would you consider painting the popular colors: blue for the bedrooms, periwinkle for the bathroom, taupe for the dining room,

tuxedo cabinets: top cabs white base cab dark navy, front door charcoal or black?

I'd never paint anything outside the realm of neutral & everybody friendly for a flip or rental. As far as I go is a red door on some houses with dark gray siding, black shutters and white trim, that looks incredible. (Taken right from a Home Depot exterior paints catalog). Behr paint has this stuff on display all the time. Perfect schemes of neutral with the codes for you. No sense reinventing the wheel with paint. Do it on your own house.

Many houses I've bought have come to me looking like a bowl of fruit loops.

I think that there may be something psychological at play here. Out of balance lives, paint scheme all over the place, out of balance finances, out of balance relationships, out of balance kids, etc. You see it over and over.

Point being, I don't want clown colors because I don't want clown tenants who would like those colors and I don't want to limit my buyer pool on flips.

So no, I wouldn't paint periwinkle. --50.32.xxx.xxx

NE of PA thats true the houses can and do look like a bowl of fruit loops. You have to wonder what people were thinking.

But most people that buy a house to live in did not plan to loose it to foreclosure.

I'm sure there are some landlords that let their tenants paint what ever color choices they want because then the landlord does not have to paint the unit.

I would never let a tenant paint because 99.9% of the tenants have no clue how to paint. Nor how to prep a room to paint. --99.56.xx.xx

That's right. That's why I think there may be a psychological link in some cases or some sort of breakdown. May be time to start standing at the paint section at Home Depot handing out "We Buy Houses" cards to people buying weird paint colors. --50.32.xxx.xxx

He.. no! I need to sell my first applicant that qualifies to see the place and would not want to turn anyone off with some stupid color that they don't like. The apartment would look like it was not repainted after the last tenant. I would expect my applicant to say "Will you be painting this before I move in?"

I have seen model homes that were beautifully decorated with lots of color that give it a pretty look but when I step in there I know that I am not buying it, it's a model. I saw a home for sale once that had a red dining room. The realtor asked the owners to leave for the viewing by my husband and I. I was glad for tht because I could not stop laughing at that dining room. Have your units be a clean canvas for your tenants.

Everyone has a favorite color. One persons favorite, that makes them feel good and happy is another's glaring headache. This is why when you sell or rent, you need neutral colors. They may not get someone excited and happy about the place, but they are not screaming headache either.

That said, I love blues, lots of blues in my house. It is like a neutral to me. My bathroom and laundry room are my colors - teal, purple, magenta. A little room, a punch of color. Our office / craft room is a greyed, muted green. I don't care if anyone else likes them, I do. I live here, I own the place and for a little time and a few bucks, I can change it when I want.

I tried painting my bedroom a neutral light cocoa color that I did like in the north spare room. But in my south bedroom it was terrible, I hated it, quickly painted back to my favorite blue. Tried neutral colors in the bathroom, - boring.

I do like how some people have neutral colors, but I can't be happy living in it.

My daughter had her bedroom painted yellow and loved it. I hated it, yellow is not my color choice, but it was her room. Then it was a purple. But now that she is off into her own house and that room is my colors. --108.4.xxx.xx

When we go to sell, it will all have to be repainted neutral colors. --76.89.xx.xxx

Color! Ya! In rentals i find its market sensitive. By renters in my North rentals like color on the wall. Bold colors! My South rental house attract a different client... they like neturals. Golds, browns, off white, gray. Background colors. But Yellow works in a kitchen in either direction. I once heard that orange in a kitchen will stimulate a person to eat more. It's an interesting topic. When we travel exterior house colors in Florida don't quite work here in Missouri. You can spot a transplant just by the color of their house! --99.203.xx.x

We just bought the wreck of a condo. The first contractor went through and took out carpeting and demo'd. He painted a primer coat.

Hey, we are getting old!

I wanted the painter to go through and paint everything Benjamin Moore Simply White, with bright white trim.

She refused. Said it was too boring. So we did the bedroom office in a nice blue. It looks pretty with a white bed, desk, and oak bookcases.

Another color I've used a lot is Benjamin Moore Clay Beige. It looks sort of a light paper bag brown to me, just a little darker than an off white. I used it in the surgery center I ran, and in my bedrooms.

Try it on an accent wall, some time. --69.247.xx.xxx

Everybody loves a little color. The problem is that everybody loves a different color. Thus, rentals are painted neutral and tenants can add their favorite color with furnishings.

Myself, I find bright colors too demanding. My own house has neutral paint and I add my color with my towels, bedding, artwork.

One of my tenants painted their unit a pale lavender, and I have to admit, it looked really good. But that was a light color and soothing, not like the normal parrot colors tenants choose.

I like older renters and considering painting a house interior that very light lavender to see if it will attract tenants who are middle age and who have outgrown typical young tenant stupidity. --98.146.xxx.xxx

Neutral. I have used a beige color for many years and that works for me. My main goal is to not have to buy a different color paint for each house so I continue to use what’s left over buying the 5 gallon buckets. If I run out of paint I may decide to switch to gray but for now I continue using the beige. There was one time when I ran out of beige so I painted one wall in a room a different color, often called a feature wall. It looks nice this way and can be done sometimes if you run out of one color. If someone really wanted purple I guess you could paint one wall purple in the room and give them their feature wall and then it would be easy to repaint this one wall later. --99.92.xxx.xxx

WMH of NC, makes a great point the paint companies do the COLOR OF THE YEAR!!!

These companies have a great marketing concept in COLOR OF THE YEAR!!!

It was Benjamin Moore a few years ago that had a deep dark purple or was it Plum COLOR OF THE YEAR. I bet several people bought that color and painted their house with it. It's dark and not my choice but if thats what people like more power to them.

Ken of NY made an excellent point that he's is not good with picking paint colors so his wife picks the paint colors.

And many people make some crazy color choices on paint but it makes sense. Take a few minutes in the paint store check out the many color choices and the array of colors and the many shades of colors.

YEP and there you have the FRUIT LOOP OF COLORS.

6X6 first answer-- no you can't.

I love to hear LL's talking color-- the conversation should be "how much labor is this going to cost me". You have to turn the property for next tenant-- who has time to match let alone repaint a hole house? It needs to Be serviceable- not glamorous?

I can hear the prospect now-- honey I like the purple kitchen one don't you?

I've used the same Glidden paint-- same run number since 1986 it hasn't changed and now can repair -- with a pint stick a whole inside in about 3 hours. Try doing that with some weird color? Keep in mind-- when you paint floor to ceiling the first time-- when the tenant moves out-- do you really need to paint floor to ceiling again? NO-- only roll the center 3 or 4 feet cause everything else is the same-- the touch up is only needed where the marks are-- they shouldn't be tot he ceiling nor all the way to the bottom. --99.103.xxx.xxx
