Re: Robert J water heater

I read in consumer reports that AO Smith is recalling low n ox water heaters from 2011-16. There is an issue w/ the burner unit.

You can look up your water heater at water heater recall

provided you have the serial number from the heater.

I tried posting this last night and used a hashtag for a number sign and the system thought I was swearing and would not let me repost. --24.194.xx.xx

Thank you for this information. My old water heater is an American, not under current recall. The core was leaking, nothing to do with the burner assembly. I couldn't use my Home Warranty or their plumbing contractor, I had to buy one and install it myself.

The warranty people wanted to pay me less than a replacement water heater without the tax or delivery charges, no labor. Their contractor wanted to tack on $800 worth of extra not covered costs. Like $250 to install a new drip tube and shut-off valve. $110 for a grounding wire between the hot and cold inlet pipe. $100 for a drip pan and special hook up between the new T&P valve and the old drain pipe. What a racket/rip-off.

Since I pulled a permit and have receipts I've requested reimbursement. Speaking to three supervisors I've gotten the run-a-round. Yes-No-Maybe-Yes and you'll get a check in 7 to 10 days! --47.156.xx.xx

To save one of these tanks change the gas valve and burner with a known good one, many good ones are found on tree-bay or if you have saved them from a dripping tank. --76.188.xxx.x
