Now since I can't work at my house because of my kids 1, 3, and 5 year old, I rented an office space, that's too good to be true.  Its right by my house.  I get to park my van there, I pay $400 per month, everything is included, I have 2, 13x13 rooms and a shower.  Then I rent out part of one to my brother for 200, I can rent more out but I want to keep it to myself.

Here is the problem.  My office smells like a cigarette butt.  The setup up is weird, I'm in the corner of the building.  Then there is another room wrapped around my room, like an L shape.  There are 2 x 4 walls with wood paneling and a drop ceiling between the separate office spaces and I can hear everyone's conversation.  The L shaped room has shag carpet and wood paneling walls.  All day the one guy does is smoke in there.  The landlord probably wont say anything to him because hes been there for 15 years an probably pays a lot more than me.  Even if he did the damage is done.  When the heat kicks on its like a old man musty smell / cigarette buds.  Then I smell like I have been at a dirty bar. It somewhat smells like that over the summer too when the heat in not on, which has me confused.  I tried running ozone, air fresheners, I'm all of out ideas.  I just jammed up the ceiling air defuses so that the heat doesn't come in anymore, that has helped a little bit but it still stinks. I know there are companies that would spray the inside of the vents and seal in the smell, but I dont think that would solve the entire problem.

Can I install some type of exhaust system or something? If so which kind?  Any ideas? I have exhausted all options.  Any ideas is appreciated...

Get a good air purifier with carbon filters.

I'm quite partial to the bluair brand with their smokestop filters. Kind of expensive but they work really well.

I don’t there is a way to resolve the smoke issue as the smoke continues to be polluting the environment. The only solution if talking to the landlord is unsuccessful (which it probably will be) is to find a different office. That is not next to an office that smokes. --64.222.xxx.xxx

Dropped ceilings let everything flow around including conversation. I guess that's why it was available and cheap. IF you could reverse the air pressure somehow to keep it from flowing over there and maybe more plastic on the walls, ceiling? The fan needs to be on the side where the smoker is to vent his air outside. Maybe you could get the landlord to do that? --73.248.xxx.xxx
