What is your favorite way to remove old silicone caulk? Got a shower that needs to be redone. I have used both mechanical and chemical approaches and they all are a pain. Looking for the magic quick and easy technique .

A razor blade knife works great to cut the caulk loose. Then use a 5 in 1 tool to pull the caulk out with the hook on the end. If you are lucky, the entire length of silicone will come out in one pull. When the caulk is out, then use rubbing alcohol to clean the area before putting in new caulk. --68.63.xxx.xxx |

One year I researched this extensively and the only thing that will work is to remove as must as you can mechanically until you have tiny, tiny amounts left, then rubbing it forever with mineral spirits.

I use a 5 in 1 tool, or a caulk removing tool of plastic, razor blade. Get the bulk out first. The plastic tool is best for fiberglass as it won't scratch. Then use a caulk remover to chemically get the last residue off. Goo gone and dap make removers.
I do not caulk with any pure silicone anymore. Depending on what needs caulking there are some excellent new materials. --108.4.xxx.xx |

thanks for all your contributions. In the end I think Ray-N-Pa has the right idea. I tried everything and in the end, I just hacked away until it was all off. The glass door installation had too many seams that were caulked and looking gross. I wondered at times if I should just remove the door,clean and reinstall a new one. --67.186.xxx.xxx |
