I'm thinking of buying one of these for a very small project. Any time I buy a new tool I'm hesitant that it may only get one time use and I'll be wasting my money.

If you have one of these did you find it worthwhile? Do you use it repeatedly?

I got mine at Harbor Freight. Great tool and less than $15.00 plus grinding wheels. If you use every week I would probably buy a name brand tool. --99.23.xxx.x

For anything I think I will use only a few times, but still find a use for,-- Harbor Freight. Cheap enough price for a few time use. If I find a lot of use for it, I can buy a good one when it does break.

Harbor Freight for the win. I had to cut off a badly rusted cast iron toilet flange. I bought 3 Harbor Freight angle grinders and burned out one doing the job. So cheap they are disposable :-) --96.234.xxx.xxx

I find used DeWalt mostly on Craig's list or a random Makita at a yard sale. Like others, I pay five or ten bucks.

The brand names last forever, I've never made one fail.

I have four or five of them. Very useful.

Have used angle cutters (aka die grinder) for 50 years. If at all possible get an air grinder. The higher the speed the better the cut. Electrics al thought very portable can't run up to speed.

We've been switching the property management t all air with a pancake compressor. --99.103.xxx.xxx

I agree harbor frieght if good for limited use tools.

But 19.99 for the BLACK+DECKER BDEG400 at Amazon is better.

At that price even get an extra one for the wife for xmas.

Dont use often. But would not be without one.

The newer brushless Makita is pretty good for a quick job. With a cut off wheel, we use on toilet bolts and shower rods.

We buy the heavy one piece stainless shower rods and flanges in bulk. And they need to be trimmed to exact lenght. Few seconds with the grinder.

The electric one is better for cutting cast iron pipe. Or smoothing small areas of concrete with a diamond cup wheel. Even used it to plane down a hump in asphalt.

Regular diamond wheel to clean out mortar joints.

Just a few of the things.

As others have mentioned consider Harbor Freight. There is a coupon in today’s paper for a 4” angle grinder for $9.99.

Harbor Freight tools are cheap and cheaply made. What I usually do is buy tools there that I’m not sure how much I will use them. If I wind up using them quite a bit then when that one quits I will buy a name brand. --70.178.x.xx

It's a great addition to any tool box.

For once a year use, get a cheap HF store grinder, it can do almost what a Makita would do, for much less money. Another advantage: nobody would steal it. --99.59.x.xxx

Most of the power tools they sell at H F store do not have UL or CSA safety rating which means those power tools are lowest standard regarding electrical safety. Name brand power tools will always have a safety rating regarding wire, switch assemblies and so on. Countries like China have no electrical safety rating. Many internet sites it is always possible to buy used power tools for a reasonable price. Even if the power tool is only used once a year it saves the day. Sometimes they have power tools at different Habitat for Humanity restores for sale where some are display models. --147.194.xxx.xx

I love tools. Angle grinders are very useful. If you do go with air, make sure you check how many cfm's it uses and that your air compressor can keep up. Air grinders and DA sanders require a lot of air and a lot of small compressors can not keep up. Electric ones are quieter too but air tools are great to if you provide enough air cfm(cubic feet per minute). --73.120.xx.xxx

Don't get confused. There are angle grinders for grinding and cutting metal and cement. And there's the painters angle sander to remove coats of paint. Which ones do you need? And they also sell vacuum shields to capture lead paint chips and dust -- using a HEPA vacuum with filers. --47.156.xx.xx

Just always remember when buying air tools to look at the cfms and make sure your compressor can keep up. Nailers should not usually be a problem but tools that use a large volume of air are if the compressor is not "big enough". --73.120.xx.xxx

VERY useful. I have used mine to:

Cut rebar for concrete project

Smoothing concrete edges

Cutting/shaping granite backsplash

Sharpening mower blades

Cutting padlocks

Cut open a 40 gal. water well tank to be able to scrap it

Make sure to use eye and hearing protection. Full face shield is even better.

RB [MI]: Many are ambidextrous where you can screw in the handle either side, and adjust the angle of the grinder wheel shield to either side. Even my Skil brand cheapie can be set up for either left or right handed use. --174.21.xxx.xxx

A harbor fright one in 4.5" is fine for corded but if you have any cordless tools consider the cordless version. They way you don't drag a cord to some obscure spot to cut a lock n such. Air is not required and Prolly not run well on a pancake --24.194.xx.xx

One of my guilty pleasures now that we have money is to buy NICE tools. I want quality and I want it to work every time. No more cheap stuff.

But ironically, I don’t do ANY work on the properties myself! But I have GREAT professional tools!
