The last few months, I've had mysterious "Analysis" fees show up on my account. It's nothing too expensive, but enough to cause an irritation. I'm managed to get them waived so far because it's turned out to be the bank's fault. Essentially, they were charging me to ask them questions on my account because their online service was messed up.

Today, I had a $6.95 charge. I emailed to ask them why it was there and was told they are now starting to charge $.05 for every $100 in cash that is deposited. I even got a little sass in the reply for free! I called a credit union to find out what their business account rules are and wouldn't you know, 100% free. They even pay interest on monthly average balance (at a higher than average rate I might add). I asked about tenants bringing in rent and she cut me off and said "That's no problem at all! We'll put a flash note on your account to get the name or address they are paying rent for and we'll give them a receipt. The receipt won't have your account number or your balance on it." Perfect, thank you! That was actually my next question.

I emailed too big for britches bank and let them know I would be in to close the account within a couple weeks. This is just idiotic to charge me for depositing money....

I've been a Credit Union person for 40 years!

My Mother is a retired credit union manager.

I always thought it was because I'm frugal (the nice word).

My reason is it always bothered me that the Bank would charge me for holding my money in their bank. And yet, use my money to meet their Federal lending guidelines. Just always thought that was wrong. --205.223.xxx.xx

I love my local bank. I've been there since BEFORE I started buying properties. Over the years I learned all the new people's names and for sure they all know me. I was even invited to someone's farewell party, and later that week I met the 'new girl.' 3 of my loans came from them, and they facilitated sending closing money to the Dominican Republic when I bought my condo there. If you can find a small local bank and make friends there, it becomes a blessing.

I also can ring up and get charges off my acct with a ph call, etc. I was allowed to have a tenant deposit money into my special acct--even tho it was against their general policy--but they KNEW me and DH longtime, and I had that spec acct just for rents for many years so they broke their rule for me. --108.87.xx.xxx

Most of my accounts are in 2 credit unions. Have been since 1976 when I started work. Very happy with the rates and the service. A lot of the credit unions are using the same online system, so it looks familiar through all the platforms. You can even "write" and online check to pay your bills, whether electric, phone or to a person. I have personal accounts and rental accounts.

My daughter had her own accounts, when she was young, one had a good grades program that would give a couple of bucks for a report card or book report. With that relationship started it was easier for her to get a checking account and credit card as she got older and went to college. She even won scholarships from each of the credit unions.

Credit unions are now insured, so there is no risk there and mine have CDs, money market accounts that all pay higher interest. I am please with my credit unions. --108.4.xxx.xx

Rediculous fees! I don't pay any fees. Once they charged me one, but I proved it was their fault and they reversed it. My bank is decent to work with but I wish they offered more services (notary for example) --99.92.xxx.xxx

I have 2 local banks that would love to have my borrowing business. And they are "local" banks not national banks.

I split my banking business between 2 banks for personal & business. My personal bank charges me nothing for anything. Doesn't matter what it is. I don't even get charged fees for originating a mortgage. They are not local to me. 2 hour round trip. No electronic banking.

The bank I run my businesses thru charge a fee for everything. I got charged a $5.00 fee for a tenant who stopped payment on a check that was deposited in my account because she thought her first check was going to be returned. I did NOTHING in that particular transaction but I was still charged a fee. I got notice that my savings accounts were "dormant" & were going to be charged a fee. These are sizable accounts.

This time of the year, every year, the branch manager starts this conversation:

When can we expect you to use us for your borrowing business & not just deposit business??

Every year I get zapped with another fee for something stupid. I hold $250K in LIQUID assets in this establishment & y'all want to nickle & dime me so y'all can build another bank building. It will be a cold day in hell before I move anything personal into this building.

He laughs.

And I laugh. And then I toss all the mail I get during the year from the head shed about a new fee here & a new fee there on his desk.

After 5 years he still doesn't get it. And he likely never will. --104.128.xx.xxx

I found my first analysis fee $4.xx recently, I have not figured out why yet. I moved to a small bank from large bank about 2 month ago. When I decide to switch, I was told no fee if I am above some balance. I am not so upset because the interest is much higher to cover the fee. --97.91.xxx.xxx

Something to think about.

You keep saying you are making deposits.....you are actually lending money to the bank.

Another way to proof what I'm saying is if you gave me five bucks so I could buy a milkshake (a good one), you would be lending me money...you would not be depositing money with me.

I've been very very very un-pleased with the fees I'm getting. BB&T - I use the acronym but if you are searching them search Big, Bad, & Terrible

BB&T will post a fee to your account but they will simply note " For previous statement" with no accounting of what the fee was for. Small numbers you simply pass over because you are busy.

I'm tired of it. I can't do that to teni.

Yes, They should provide me my accounts for free because thanks to me they can lend out the money in leave in my accounts....in fact, they can lend out many times what is actually on their books.

Yes, the fees are ridiculous. I won't name the bank, but it's big here in town and I think they have a few more branches elsewhere. Whoever said to deposit more money to meet min balances, I assure you that is NOT the issue. They are simply changing their rules so they can make more money. I am simply changing banks to keep more money.

For the future, a credit union will work well. I already had moved my personal stuff there after the too big for britches bank changed the fee structure on personal accounts. They are truly local and eager to help. There are a few less branches for tenants to drop off rent, but it's not the only available method to pay I have. I'm also going to add ACH pretty soon, so that should take care of that. --98.175.xxx.xxx
