Bank Incompetence

I recently jumped to another bank. Local as recommended here.

I asked for emailed statements and nothing sent to my home - they failed.

I asked for on-line banking. Ironically when I went to sign up for it they declined me. That was humorous but it took a trip to the branch and just under two hours for bank staff to figure out their problems. (This is not an application for credit...just a simple request for on-line banking).

And after a few attempts now, the branch is still accepting deposits without labeling the deposit with a name or address.

Money is coming into the account but nobody knows who has paid it.

On a scale of one to ten, I'm frustrated to level four or so. But I really don't know what to do. I've had a few banks place memos to the tellers so when my account pops up on the screen it gives the teller instructions.

Didn't work.

If you listen to the news, you will hear about how small shops are closing because they can't find competent help. Interesting what is happening out there.

I don't know how many tenants you have, but you can have different rents for different tenants...then you would know who paid and didn't. --99.59.x.xxx

I'm going to avoid Zelle for as long as I can. The banks got together to form Zelle after Venmo took over.

I'm a super fan of Venmo.

My teni are unbanked and I see that they are unable to follow instructions. I can't have them paying different amounts because it would be over their heads. At the same time, they would make mistakes. They often deposit a check and add cash.

No, the problem with this bank is that the on-line view does not show the actual deposit slip.

This became a problem with the last bank, who I corrected numerous times. In the end I had to jump ship to a new bank.

I'm going to visit Walmart and see if they offer any banking services. I know you can buy a money order there however I need the deposits to be one-stop shopping.

Sorry missed one.

I've been to the branch a couple times about this. I have not gone over their head as I trusted they would work out the details.

I don't like the different rent amounts "work around". I think it is a clever fix however I need this system to work if I ask someone else to go on-line and record the rents. I need names or an address.

Next step; I'm going to instruct the bank to demand an address. I had a name show up and I have no idea who that is. I recognize it from the past but I don't recall which address that name belongs to. It should be Name/Address

I supply my tenants with deposit slips each month with a statement. That way their name and apt. # are already on the slip. Of course they don't always use the slip I provide, but I remind them if I can't tell who made the deposit they might not get credit. I also have them message a picture of the deposit slip if in doubt about who made it. --67.186.xxx.xxx

One of my banks, Citibank, wanted some information to keep one of my Trust accounts open. They had around 50 questions. Asked and answered several times via emails, phone conversations and going into the branch and letting them handle it.

Then I got notice that they are closing that Trust Account for failure to answer required information. It seems that each of the people in that department was tasked with getting the information and then passing it on. Then there was a back log to input the information into their system.

So the keeper of the gate said that I refused several attempt to gather required information to keep my account up dated. My branch VP told them the he personally gathered up the information they already had when I opened the Trust Account, "Family Trust for Estate Purposes", and he sent it to them via secure messenger service and emailed them the file.

Oh, they guess it wasn't entered into the system yes, it's only been 40 plus days -- never mind about closing the account.

Never mind? They put me through "hel_". So I removed a few million from that bank and took it else where, where harassment isn't an issue. --47.156.xx.xx

I'm pretty much tired of the old banks...I'm ready for the Internet banks to take over.

I think the answer will be with my teni. I need to ask them how they want to pay. Maybe they already can do something via their phone that I don't know about.

Thanks for the search tips. Opening an account for every shack would seem like a nightmare to me.

That said, I'll remain open minded about it. It is only in certain towns where I have a problem, in other cities the teni use Venmo and that works flawlessly.

Robert mentioned that he provided alternate means to pay the rent. I do not provide, however when requested I'll accept a check, offer to drive their deposit to the bank etc. I too don't want to stand in front of a judge and explain that I only allowed one form of payment. I want to be accommodating in this respect.

(It would be kinda cool for the local gossipy tellers to spot when an account was not receiving rents. They would know a rental opened up and could spread the word).

I have given out deposit slips. The problem is just as Mike encountered. This new bank does and does not use deposit slips. (That I don't understand. So far they have shown me that they don't label who made the deposit, so now what if the deposit was made to the wrong account? Bizarre if you ask me).

Most of the banks today would rather hire someone who speaks Spanish rather than be competent on any level.

It reminds me of when I was looking into entering the financial services field. I had plenty of experience with all things financial. But all the employers wanted was a salesperson. They could not care less if they had financial experience as long as the person could sell.

Incompetence and banking go together. And they wonder why people hate the banks and brokerages so much...go figure. --24.20.xxx.xxx

I use the one account per address method after trying to use a single inflow account... the headache is in doing one account for inflows... trust me.. my accounts are free and were opened in bulk.. 20 or 25... the bank reps will love you as new accounts is a key metric... did I sit in the bank while they set them up?...nope . I walked in and signed docs in 10 mins and left.. all banks will make mistakes... almost never in your favor...... --174.234.xxx.xx

I pay 30 bucks a month for added bank features and see all of my accounts with one log in... I agree, having to log in for every account is pure insanity. Keep balances the same in all of your inflow accounts,that way, when there balance is different than your default balance..$30/$40... you'll immediately know there's been activity --174.234.xxx.xx

The credit union has one main savings account and subsidiary checking accounts that you request. You can nickname each checking account like Main St Apt no. 1 etc. You log in online and can see all the different apt accounts in one look. Then click on account no. 92 Apt 4 to see what has been deposited by the tenants --195.162.xx.xx
