Well, our first snow was way more than expected. Got a call from my very "entitled" tenant asking if the plow was coming. I call my plow guy and he is 5 minutes away.

She calls me back a bit later telling me she is stuck in the driveway and the plow guy needs to come back.

I call plow guy inquiring about the situation. He told me that she had slid sideways down a slight embankment. He offered to pull her out, but there was no rope. He said her attitude was atrocious!

I drove by and saw her in the driveway with her boyfriend. I pull in to see the situation and the guy did a great job plowing, but SHE had gotten herself stuck because her tires were bad. She barely acknowledged me, she was angry. Her boyfriend was much more accommodating.

I asked if she had AAA to tow her out and she mumbled something that it was used up. She then got her pissy attitude telling me that she had to call out of work (my fault?) so I walked away.

She is a student and got herself pregnant and her life is in turmoil. What makes these people think that nothing is their fault? I would have been more helpful, but that attitude thing........

Used up all of her AAA tows for the year?? Even on their most basic plan, you get FOUR roadside assistances per year! Anyone that has gone through four in a year sounds pretty scary as a driver in general... :)

Yes, she can call a tow truck however the snow is all melting and if she is very careful she could probably get out but her stinking attitude makes everything worse! --32.215.xxx.xx

The only concern you as the landlord should have regarding her attitude is whether or not it's so bad that it determines whether you kick her out or renew her lease.

You as the landlord could care less if she's stuck in the driveway. Unless of course it's your fault directly, which is rare. --50.107.xxx.xxx

You did the best thing.. walk away. It isn't your problem, the driveway was cleaned which sounds like your responsibility on the lease. We are in the NE, it snows, people have to be prepared. I do not feel sorry for people who are not prepared.

I even remind people to be prepared, (storm is coming, park facing out on the driveway so you don't back downhill) I will assist, if I can, people who might need help, as long as it doesn't endanger me. But if they have a bad attitude - well I don't need it, I have other things to do.

Over the years, I have found that people who constantly make bad decisions don't learn from them, and will continue on that path. It is the way they live life. Nothing I can do about it. I would rather help people who help themselves.

JO of CT,

What does your lease say about snow removal? You did your part with the snow removal. At this point walk away from the entitlement mindset. and if she calls let it go to voice mail then text her with your response. I guess according to this tenant you made her drive off the road into the snow like you were standing in front of her not letting her get out of the driveway.

She been stuck how many times and maxed out her calls to AAA? Maybe this tenant needs to take some driving lessons and learn how to handle a vehicle properly. OH YEAH and proper maintenance by keeping good tires on her vehicle will help too.

AND how hard is it for the tenant to help herself by taking two passes with a snow shovel on the driveway at least for the tires. As a Landlord, you can't fix STUPID!!!

As the landlord you will decide if you want to keep this PITA or give her the early happy clause. Heres Your Sign Ms. PITA Tenant!!!

Tom....your response is priceless! Yes STUCK! I would like her to leave, but she is on a lease until May, but I'm hoping to find another student to replace her for 2nd semester. She of course is doing nothing to help...another attitude.

I like the idea about having people park facing out. That would really help. She'll figure it out. I'm not her mother. --32.215.xxx.xx

The news is talking about how long it took people to get home yesterday. The NJ govment never called out the plows. I had three inches here and it was up to and over five in North Jersey. People were tweeting that it took them an hour to go five miles. Some kids got stuck at their schools and parents had to get them and it was 1 AM before they could get through the snow and traffic. One guy took ten hours to drive five miles. The clerk at the hardware store said it took her twenty minutes to go the mile to her home and when she stopped at lights people were getting stuck and couldn't go forward. This snow was very heavy and wet and it just was not melting as usual. The reason I believe is that we are in Solar Minimum and there just is not enough heat coming from the sun. Usually the roads don't even keep snow on them unless it is way below freezing due to the sun action on the black asphalt. The temperature was right a freezing. This is the first November snowfall this early since 1996 and that year we had a record thirty inch, unpredicted snowfall in January. I'm sure this snowfall broke some records where you are too. Just remember, there is not going to be the melting you had over the past five years. Remember snow tires and chains from the 1950s? I hope it doesn't get that bad. The temps went up to mid 40s here today and then there was some melting. --73.178.xxx.xx
