I hope you can find a doctor who accepts medicare. No one here will take a new medicare patient. --174.216.xx.xxx

I was paying about eight hundred a month to Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield when Medicare kicked in. I actually had to take ss early at sixty two in order to pay the health insurance. My mother had passed in 2005 and with it went her SS which was my Dad's amount and he passed in 1990. So when she passed I inherited the buildings and the State of NJ had legislated inheritance tax for children. So I had to pay thirty seven thousand and got wiped out of my savings. Had to cut grass, rake leaves and move snow until I could sell some buildings. Governor Christie removed the inheritance tax for children but I heard on the news today that NJ Gov. Murphy is thinking of putting it back and removing the sales tax. There is no sales tax on food, clothing and shelter so it doesn't seem to hurt the poor. Estate tax will kill business and uproot families and pauperize them. --73.178.xxx.xx

Spend a little extra on your supplemental insurance . The less expensive supplemental‘s will have a higher out-of-pocket each and every time you have an office visit or a hospital stay. We Picked plan F PPO

from Blue Cross and have not been unhappy.

My wife’s open heart surgery and and 10 days in the hospital was billed at $356,000. Insurance reduced it to 60,000 paid to the providers and my out-of-pocket was $20. We can see any doctor anywhere. --75.22.xx.x

Universal medicare was introduced in Canada in 1972 where regardless of age, income or medical condition everyone is covered. There are higher taxes to pay for medical care. Seen many times different media come up here then completely trash medicare here. While not perfect modern medicine is expensive no matter who pays. Personally never had a problem with specialists except one case where the doctor retired then got a referral to another specialist where the problem was done at the hospital with one visit. Been through everything surgery, ICU along with many times visits to hospital, doctors office. It would be nice to win a lottery where the winnings here are completely tax free. Income from investments would be taxed. --147.194.xxx.xx

Not desiring to be the wet blanket on this fire, but keep in mind that lottery is scheduled to run low on funds within a decade or so. Now would be an excellent time to invest the saved funds in such a way as to insulate yourself when the cuts begin. I won't get that option since the cuts will happen before I'm eligible, but still I hope to keep others informed so they can prepare. It's not a question of IF they will cut Medicare...It's WHEN and HOW MUCH? Word to the wise. --172.56.xx.xxx

I had felt relieved when I finally got Medicare 12 years ago. However, I have had many, many problems. Very legitimate claims have been completely denied. On some I spent many hours over a period of weeks and finally got part paid for. On others, I gave up.

An example of one denied that took me forever to get anything toward the bill was on a day when I apparently slipped on a tiny patch of ice and bounced down a flight of outside concrete steps on my back. It was 3 degrees outside and the temperature was dropping, and snow was about to start. I couldn't move and was in intense pain (from some new fractures in my back), but with great difficulty I managed to get out my cell phone.

It took a long, long time for an ambulance to come. It took four men and a lot of struggle for them to get me into the ambulance and then to a hospital emergency room. The persons at the emergency room seemed very irritated with me and didn't give me any help, telling me to go on home. I pointed out I couldn't move - and they told me to take a taxi. Fortunately a friend came and with great difficulty she and her husband kept me at their house that night.

Medicare denied everything - ambulance ride,ER "treatment", etc. - saying I should collect this from my car insurance and not Medicare. I pointed out I didn't have a car, there was no car anywhere near me, etc. My bill got sent to a collection agency. Eventually Medicare agreed to pay part of the ambulance and ER bills. However, they denied anything toward physical therapy that my doctor said I definitely needed.
