My former insurer provided me with a written list of which dangerous dog breeds they would not insure. I changed insurers and requested the same of the new company. The agent told me she was unable to provide the list in writing and could only read it to me over the phone. I asked her several times why I couldn't receive a written list, and she just said it was their policy. Any idea as to why this is? --76.183.xxx.xxx |

I would think that if you don't have a written list and there is a problem with a guarding breed that is not on their list, they can quickly add that breed and you have no way to contest it.
There are lots of guarding breeds that are very rare in this country that come from countries where dog bites don't carry liability issues. At least in the USA, most breeders are trying to breed for stable temperaments. If you get a guard breed from Russia or Afghanistan, the dogs are bred to bite first and ask questions later, if the victim survives.
New breeds coming into the USA, the insurance people, who aren't dog people, can't keep up. --174.216.x.xx |

Seriously. They have a written exclusion for "dangerous breeds", but can't provide you with a written list of those breeds? That's garbage and I'd fine a new company that doesn't pull that sort of thing.
