anti-tip bracket range (by J [FL]) Posted on: Sep 19, 2018 7:45 AM

I had a new range delivered from Lowe's. I have porcelain floors underneath where the range would be. I had assumed that I would just be able to drill a couple of holes through the flooring with a diamond bit and attach the anti-tip bracket that comes with the range, but the delivery person said I would actually have to remove a large part of the tile in that area because bracket needs to attach to subfloor, not just the tile.

This is starting to sound like a headache to do. This range has several cement blocks in the rear when you remove that back panel that are supposed to help prevent the range from tipping over if a kid climbs on the door.

Would this be enough for a rental or do you think I still need to install the anti-tip bracket as well? --72.188.xxx.xxx

Don't listen to delivery people. Do it like you intended, just use longer screws.

Did the delivery person actually think you were going to use screws so short they wouldn't even go through the tile? I

J,

The trim itself is not attached to the wall to take any stress. Screw the trim to some studs THEN attached the bracket.

I’ve accidentally tipped over stoves myself. The bracket is a good thing.

The brackets are good so don't discard them and attach them like you we're going to do. Uh, yeah, if you removed the tile and attached the bracket to the subfloor then the foot of the stove would not engage it because it would be down below the level of the tile floor. But don't drill through the tile, it is hard and might crack-------drill through a grout line. --70.90.xx.xxx

Use a stud finder and get a stronger wood attached there, now align the bracket with that and connect this way, chances are you never see this extra wood so you can give it touch up paint when you do the 90 day inspection. --76.188.xxx.xx

I toss them. The anti tip brackets have 2 areas to attach. To the floor or the bottom plate of that wall. Pick one. Delivery guys are just that for a reason. --74.37.xx.xx

I use them every time because I don't want to see some child have a pot of boiling water come down on his or her head. The delivery guys from the high end appliance store told me to get someone else to do it. They had no clue. Handyman drilled through the asphalt tile and down into the floor after measuring to see where they should go, and the stove slid right into them in the right place. Great handyman. --73.178.xxx.xx

Charlie I'd never heard of it either. There are 4 of them, built into the range. They're a bit smaller than a brick.

I'm still going to install the bracket though. --72.188.xxx.xxx

I never used them. I should, just one of those things that never reach the top of the todo list.

But a kid standing on the oven door could tip it, and if there was a pot of boiling stew on the stove - yikes! --47.216.xx.xxx

anti-tip bracket range (by Robert J [CA]) Posted on: Sep 20, 2018 9:05 AM

I installed a new range with the required "anti-tip bracket". Since my gas valve was flush with the wall the bracket could be bolted to the baseboard, not the floor.

I ALSO put two designer buttons at the back of the range on the wall to show the correct location of the range so the range's foot lines up with the bracket.

One tenant that likes to clean the floor move the range to clean under it. When she moved it back she didn't light up the range with the anti-tip bracket. So when she was cooking a heavy Turkey, she sat it on the door after cooking and tipped the range over.

The tenant only got slightly burned and it caused damage to the vinyl flooring. Had I not put a "button" location on the rear wall, her attorney would said it was my fault and sued me. It was her negligence. --47.156.xx.xx
