This is a long story, they made a ton of mistakes that were easily avoidable on my delivery and installation. Mostly from a careless and incompetent employee who originally entered the order. But also because of the non-existent communication between Lowes and the subcontractor who is supposed to do the install.

I asked a dept manager to be compensated $100 for my time I've had to waste, the phone calls, being the go between and the micro manager between lowes and their vendor. They said no.

Is there any point in pursuing this to a higher level in the store (store manager) or even the President of Lowes? Will this get me anywhere or should I just give up? --72.188.xxx.xxx

Only if you like NO.

Escalate to office of the president for sure. Don't look for compensation but credit on order. They, Lowes, know they have some real issues with orders. Seems simple to us but they have wrong people working this. --99.103.xxx.xxx

Thank you MYOB. That sounds like a good idea. I don't have time right now to write a letter but I will do it in a week or two.

What I would really like is my time back instead of money, LOL. It's beyond frustrating having to spend time on all these phone calls when I could be doing something productive instead. All of this could have been avoidable if someone had spent an extra five minutes doing their job the right way and paying attention to details. --72.188.xxx.xxx

Lowes mistakes (by Robert J [CA]) Posted on: Sep 17, 2018 10:14 AM

My partner wanted to remodel the last kitchen in our apartment complex using Lowe's. I tried to explain that this wouldn't be a bargain and any mistakes or damages would mean a re-order and a 4 to six week delay. She went ahead anyways.

So as a contractor I demo's the old kitchen, ran the new electrical and plumbing. Closed the drywall and primed the kitchen walls/ceiling.

Lowe's had the cabinets delivered. 32 boxes. I went down the list and found one box, an over counter cabinet, was too narrow. We ordered a 30" cabinet with two doors and they send a 24" cabinet instead. Their installed could still go forward and install the kitchen while Lowe's ordered the right cabinet.

Lowe's said it was going to take 4 to 6 weeks for the manufacturer to make up the new cabinet and another 7 to 10 days for delivery. Then the installer will give us a 5 day window for the install. So we were going to loose 2 months worth of rent. Without that cabinet installed they couldn't do the crown molding and complete the kitchen.

This was unacceptable. So Lowe's would do nothing. The installed could do nothing. So I called the manufacturer and ordered the right cabinet ASAP, a new order. They could make it up in three days and ship via air mail. We got the cabinet in 1 week. Lowe's refused to pay for the extra cost. So I sued Lowe's and won in small claims court. I never used them again with a time sensitive installation.

You really have to be proactive when ordering from Lowes or Home Depot. Always ask for a written order and verify that everything is correct. Recently, I ordered a refrigerator from Lowes via the internet. Waited 2 days to be contacted for delivery at which time I learned they did not have them in stock as the website stated so they cancelled my order. I ordered it at another store which I verified had it in stock and that order was cancelled by an individual at the other store too! --50.77.xxx.xxx

Yes escalate especially if you used the pro desk. I had a pro desk order with HD a few years ago which went bad on many levels. Total order probably $2-2.5k. There issues with the delivery but the biggest issue was the appliance delivery no showing but the local store keeping me at the vacant apartment until 9 PM as well as another tenant. Then they couldn’t deliver for another week. I escalated and escalated until I believe I received the appliances and a $500 credit on the order. I am not a contractor, but I spend enough every year that it was worth them acknowledging their screw ups and compensating me enough to keep me as a customer. I asked for all the appliances for free initially. I am pretty easy going and even jerked but I missed my child’s open house and had to deal with the situation while on a 2 day running race going in and out of cell coverage. They caused me time, stress, missing out on an important event and a delay with a tenant with no stove. --166.137.xxx.xx

Always go straight to the top. Email and/or Fax the CEO. I've had so many matters fixed that way...he will push it down to HIS assistant and they will take care of you somehow.

I wouldn't ask for compensation - see what they offer you.

Make the letter very polite and to the point. Bullet points might help! --50.82.xxx.xx

We had a carpet install from one of the big box stores. Never ever will we use their installs or subcontractors again.

If I buy material from them,I use my own contractor. --174.216.xx.xxx

As much as HD is disfunctional, Lowe's is even worse. they also lag behind in per store sales.

Their problem: their people.

Lowe's is now trying to unload a small chain they acquired from Sears, called Orchard (OSH). That was the place I bought my first water heater for my first rental...it was a Reliance natural gas 30 gallon, for $79. The year? 1976. Now OSH is closing. --99.59.x.xxx

J,

Don't be shy.

Walk in and complain to the store manager TODAY. Every day that passes reduces your effectiveness.

Take copies and photos.

Lowes and HD suck, I wouldn't ever pay them for a job. Only loser contractors work for them.

They don't care, I spend in some years over $100k in one HD store and they couldn't care less. --24.187.xxx.xx
