Yep, mail.
I’ve got one unit where everyone moved out over 6 weeks ago. Heck, he moved out in June, and she finally got her stuff out in early August. Neither of them has put in a change of address. I cleaned out the mailbox (again), taped it shut, and have a giant stack that I stamped and am sending back. I’ve never had one go this long.
Other Ideas? While at it, I found mail addressed to a tenant from 15 years ago. Wow.
At my own home, I’ve lived here since early 2001. I still receive mail for the previous owner. Believe it or not, it is from a life insurance company! They continue to send the annual statement to my house even though I send it back every year!
How much mail do you receive for former residents? Hw long does it persist? Do you return to sender, throw it away after a period of time, or what? --64.251.xxx.xxx |

I had a bright red self inking stamp made for my apartment building "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS". I stamp the mail for ex-residents and return to the Post Office.
We have lived in our current residence for 5 years. Rarely, we still get mail addressed to the former owner. I toss it -- there has to be statute of limitations on forwarding mail.

I really don't care and don't worry about these things either. I think until someone at the address really fires back the post office will just keep putting the mail there.
After a tenant moves out I will sometimes see the mail in the mailbox (or wherever) and I go through it just to empty it out. It amazes me of all the different names that are on the mail. Some are past tenants ... some I have no idea who it is at all.
I do believe that sometimes banks or credit agencies will send out letters/mailers to get people to call them as they are trying to find people. If they get someone to call them "for found money" or "free stuff" - now they have a hook to see if they know who they are looking for.

In Jan 2018, I started to dump all old mail in the trash. I've tried to reason with the post office, to no avail.
"Return to sender...address unknown" worked for Elvis Presley, not for me. --99.59.x.xxx |

Our apartment mailboxes are rural type mailboxes on a post at the street although we live in a town. I’ve never thought to look in the mailbox. I have a vacancy now so maybe I will. I have gotten mail back because the forwarding address expires after a year. --74.140.xxx.xxx |

removing the mail box works,,, i like that you tapped it closed. that should help!
I would just dump it off at the post office and tell them, no longer at this address,,, write it once on bright paper and rubber band it together.

Always check mail box for Lowe's 10 percent coupons when tenants move. Sometime you can get 3 or 4 of them. --174.233.xxx.xxx |

I just moved to a new personal residence this summer. We get lots of mail for the former owners, but the strangest thing is the mail that comes for my husband's father. He died in 1988 and never lived with us. I never even met him! --73.110.xx.xx |

Barb,
Not my problem. I have bigger fish to fry. If they don’t care enough to submit a free change of address to USPS or do it online for $1, it must not be important to them.
BUT...
I’m told it’s illegal to tamper with someone’s mail, even in the building I own
Sooo...because I don’t want ANY reason for them to have me arrested! I simply write MOVED on the front and the carrier takes it away the next day.
Done. Legal! No longer my problem.
