We ar slowly getting our Primary residence ready to be rented. We have a supply of nice darkish grey tile of a certain type. The old stuff was the ame and was removed by me some years ago. The adhesive was black and with repeated washing came off the plywood completely.

Is there any reason to not use this tile?

[I really do not expect that it will get chewed up, inhaled and/or eaten]

If Ok for use what adhesive do you suggest?

As always thank you for your time and attention.

I wouldn't if you are referring to asbestos containing tile. All it takes is one tenant to freak out and file a lawsuit. Also, if you ever sell the property, it will have to be disclosed and probably replaced at your expense. There are too many better modern flooring options available. --98.146.xxx.xxx

Obviously I can't see the tile but based on your description it sounds dated. Go to a big box store and get something modern. There are lots of inexpensive options. --209.237.xxx.xxx

I'm not clear if the question is based on the size or material, or both...but I know that small tiles like 9X9 are going to look passe. Maybe if it were in the bathrooms only it would be alright but not in other areas of the house.

I just had my living room tiled with 18X18 and I was told at a couple of places that anything smaller than that was going by the wayside. --72.188.xxx.xxx

The 9 x 9 and even the 12" x 12" peel and stick may look outdated.

I know some of the landlords use the VCT commercial tile that will were like iron. Depending on color choice could look dated.

The ceramic and porcelain tile are now designed with wood look finishes.

The Luxury Click Vinyl are designed to look like wood PLUS with the click system no adhesive is needed. They are designed to look like wood floors. AND waterproof if there is a leak or tenants tend to spill stuff. Wipe up is easy.

Laminate floors are like a sponge if they get wet from a leak.

Carpet traps dirt and spills just soaks in.

The 9" x 9" will look dated and if older could have asbestos in the tile. Price may be right but the look will be dated.

Using the click vinyl will update the floor and look great.

In the end its what your budget can afford? What will the unit look like once its done: Dated or upto date???

New tiles are not that expensive, and show nicer than old tiles.

The labor is the same. Go with new tiles, and rent the house quickly. --99.59.x.xxx

Frank,if you still use them, you can ut a cost of polyurethane, the high Gloss kind, wouldn't worry too much about asbestos, been here for years and nobody has died yet,the fear of it has kept alot of people in work otherwise they'd have to stand in the unemployment line, just like the characters in homeland security, same thing, don't have a brain in their head.A better use of your time could be putting down prefinished hardwood or some of the other prefinished, like perdo.....................charlie............................................. --32.214.xxx.xx
