Cleaned out an eviction unit today that I think the smell is serious nicotine. Normally I was with rags by hand. I know some of you mop. Any particular kind, tips, etc?

I like Super Clean. Just read the instructions and dilute carefully. The nicotine will rool off the walls fast. I use a sponge mop and then go back over it with clean water. Much faster and easier than anything else I've found. Automotive section of Wamart --174.233.xxx.xx

Lowes sells a window cleaning device with a white terry cloth head. About $7.00 if I remember correctly. It was blue, but it has a wide head & works well on walls too. The head will fit in a 5 gallon bucket, we used when doing doublewide walls. --71.219.xx.xxx

Mopping helps, especially if you don't plan on using Killz.

Nicotine bleeds right through regular paint, even the latex killz.

I used White Lightning and it did a great job, until I sprayed it on some varnished cabinets. Took the varnish off and I wound up painting all the kitchen cabinets.

Simple Green seems to work well but you will need to rinse 2x as it leaves a residue. --137.119.xxx.xxx

Search through past threads for nicotine removal. I used a paint roller dipped in TSP and rolled UP the walls to prevent streaking. You still probably want to paint the walls with a shellac-based primer to seal in any smoke smell, as it will have penetrated the drywall. Ask me how I know... --204.210.xxx.xxx

My housekeeper uses a sponge mop and TSP.

Wear gloves to keep the nicotine off your skin so it does nto absorb into YOU.

Agree with Brad.

Sponge mop, tsp, lots of hot water, long gloves and dont let the nicotine water contact your skin.

I also sponge mop ceilings. Wear eye protection.

Lots of towels on the edges of the floor. Protect the trim. Also if you have a washer and dryer there. Take along the soap and wash and dry the towels so you can reuse them. --66.148.xxx.xxx

Regular floor sponge mop but the key is Trisodium phosphate from the hardware store in the small box as a powder you mix in water. Wear gloves. It cuts the grease that the nicotine is stuck in. --73.178.xxx.xx

I use a sponge mop, plus a rolled up bath towel on the floor to catch drips. The best sponge mop is the old fashioned type with the softish old fashioned sponge with lots of holes in it.

It saves time if the mop has a wringer lever up on the pole.

The last nicotine house I scrubbed I used greased lightening, but I haven't been able to find that recently. Awesome would work.

That nicotine house was so bad that everyone who worked on it got sick. I decided that was the last nicotine house I will ever buy.

I don't rent to smokers and if I discover a tenant is smoking, I kick them out. --72.35.xxx.xx

Did this recently using VEE's tip.

Mixed TSP and water in a paint tray and applied the solution to the ceilings and walls with a paint roller on extension pole. Gave a few minutes for the solution to do its work, then sponged it off with a large sponge mop. LOTS of rinsing, even after that some stains would later reappear and require rework. Some areas (baseboards) needed the scrub brush. --71.212.xx.xxx

I use one of those "spin" mops and bucket. They are terrific.

I use Mr. Clean and greased lightening in the bucket...smells nice, then stick the mop in, swish a second, put the mop in the spinner basket, step on the foot pedal, spin out the excess water and the mop is ready to go...no drips...you can have the mop wetter or not depending on how many pumps of the foot pedal you use. --32.215.xxx.xxx

Yes. You never use a mop that was used on the floor to mop the wall. Always use a new mop or new mophead. --100.6.xx.xxx
