We had heavy rains a week or so ago, and got about four inches of storm water backing up into one of our basements. (In our area, the storm drains and sewer system are separate, fortunately. ) The sump pump kicked in but couldn't keep up. I seem to remember reading somewhere about a check valve that could be installed to prevent this from happening. Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening again?

That's a great question...I've had a similar issue and would love to hear a good answer.

There is a check valve available to put on the sump pump to prevent the water in the pipe going up from going back into the hole. There are storm drains in one of the neighborhoods where I have a property and they do overflow and can put four inches of water in the basement of the Cute Cape Cod. --73.178.xxx.xx |

There is a check valve made for the basement floor drain to prevent storm water from coming in. --72.95.xxx.xx |

Thanks for the tips. I found what I needed:
plumbingsupply.com/floodguard.html
For less than $20 each, seems like a no-brainer. I'm putting them in all my properties! --204.210.xxx.xxx |
