Are you allure folks installing any type of threshold or landing area in front of entrance doors to catch mud, water or stones? Like a 3x5 tiled area, etc.?

Or are you just running allure all the way up to the door?

I have a lot of gravel walkways and am wondering if boots catching stones in the treads are going to present an issue over time with the allure. --50.32.xxx.xxx

To piggyback...

When Allure first came out it was all the rage, especially for LL's. A few years in, I was reading about problem after problem. (seams gapping, corners peeling up)

I used it in one house, it looked great but about 3 months later, the seams started gapping. Looked almost like the planks shrunk or contracted a little. Suggested fixes included heat gun, heat gun+super glue, buying some allure adhesive and reworking the trouble spots, replacing the problem planks.

Have these issues been fixed/reduced? What kind of results are people getting now? --137.119.xxx.xxx

I run up to the door. Can always use a mat if needed.

As for gaps, are you rolling the seams as recommended in the instructions? I have not had any gapping issues. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Allure planks do swell and shrink with the temperature, leaving gaps in the adhesive overlaps. These small cracks are hardly noticeable to 50 year + old landlords’ eyes, even less after a couple of years of tenant grime fills them in. Allure on! --174.192.x.xx

If you use a good busy wood pattern, gaps don't show LOL! We used Brushed Oak Taupe (special order) and also Khaki Oak (almost identical, but available in our store.) Both are very variegated and show nothing.

We run right up to door. Might put a threshold over it sometimes. --50.82.xxx.xx

But I should add, we haven't seen large gaps at all. I'm talking really tiny gaps that are installation issues and only noticeable to us, who are right on top of it when laying it. --50.82.xxx.xx

Been using since 2011, and installed about 7500 sq ft. The only issues were from installation when I was learning. I love it! --64.251.xxx.xxx

Barb, DH swears by the "Triangle of Truth" for a good installation. He takes a lot of time to get the first three to four rows going in a triangle shape, with longest side against the starting wall then angling out in shorter and shorter rows until we are sure everything is perfectly straight. Otherwise mistakes will telegraph across the floor as installation continues ending with larger gaps at the finish row.

Once he started using this careful process, our floors go down straight smooth and FAST with no gaps. --50.82.xxx.xx

I put allure down in an apt and noticed that it started to gap about 1/16" in spots. I started to notice it in the 1st week. It is laid across the joists. The thing I could not correct for is floor sag. In the course of 30' the floor dips 2" in the middle. Allure instructions say the subfloor cannot be that out of level.

Perhaps that is your issue. And for inquiring minds I rolled the floor w/ a nice shiny roller from HD n had the heat cranked up and had acclimated the flooring.

I ran it to the front door, as well. I would think you might want to have a harder landing by the front door in your situation. --24.194.xx.xx

WMH: I’m with your DH on that. As I said, only issues were when I was learning to do it. My husband, son and I are now great at it. I spend the time on the floor getting it right and they do the cuts and running of it for me.

Getting ready to pay 5600 sq ft in a couple of weeks. Just waiting for HVAC to be installed. That should happened at the end of the coming week. Then run it for 2 weeks, then install. It should cascade after that.

Speaking of, I uploaded a new photo. We have brick installed! --64.251.xxx.xxx

NE,

Edge to edge.

To address your concern my turnover checklist requires a “mud rug” inside the front door. Cheap, helps catch the grit, looks more welcoming. Out problem is seeds and tiny leaves stuck to wet shoes tracking thru the entire house. In rainy season we’ll put down 2 or 3 like a runner. Helps.

I watch sales for foot wiping rugs with rubber backing so they don’t slip.

All of my houses have a "landing pad" at the front door, most of them tile. That's a place to step in with muddy shoes.

My preference is to have both the landing pad and a walkway to the kitchen.

Allure seems to handle mud and wet really well.

Maybe buy some of those big heavy coconut fiber door mats and put them outside the doors. Hope tenants understand how to wipe their feet. --174.216.x.xxx

No trouble with seams opening since 2006, same teak in hallways - stairways and unit foyers. Now have used other lighter colors but some folks pinch the floor with trim strips and just like Dagwood fighting to get the newspaper the seams can open. --107.209.xxx.xx
