I have a middle unit that has a very bad odor. Smells like curry. At first we thought it was the carpet. Removed. Smell has only gotten worse. No stink in crawl space or in other units. Painting now. Any clues? Any ideas how to get rid of?

Odors stay in grease. Try degreasing the kitchen walls etc with trisodium phosphate. It's a detergent that comes in a little box and the hardware store has it. Wear gloves and use a sponge mop on the walls, cabinets, ceiling etc. --73.178.xxx.xx

Try closing all doors and opening all windows to isolate which room. That will narrow the search. Food under a stove or behind a cabinet? Something behind laundry machines? Keep looking. Many things give off unusual odors. Moth balls, chemicals, etc. --99.92.xxx.xxx

A couple weeks of ozone machine may be in order to eradicate the cooking smells. --76.188.xxx.xx

If it is curry, you might have to wash out the inside of the kitchen cabinets and clean the heater vents. That's one of the things I had to do to get rid of cigarette smoke.

Wash the exterior of the appliances --174.216.xx.xxx

OK, I followed everyone's advice... Doors are all on & closed. Odor in bedrooms (2). Not in hall, kitchen, living room or bath... very very odd... I plan to finish washing walls down with TSP & painting. Once that is done I should have a better idea of what the problem is... or not.. THANKS FOR Advice. --160.3.xxx.xxx

I'd start by washing down the walls and see if that helps at all. Any other soft goods in the rooms? Carpet or curtain? Miniblinds? If so, get those out.

Odor in bedrooms. Very strange. Any sign of fresh paint or drywall or repair? Maybe a body (or body parts) behind sheetrock. --50.45.xxx.xx
